Thrilled to share that SouthBridge Group, led by Dr. Donald Kaberuka and accompanied by Emeryc Kpenou, Irma Sobabé Ali, and Norbert Musana, recently participated in a high-level meeting with Guinean government officials, including the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Isma?l NABE. During the meeting, Dr. Kaberuka highlighted the transformative potential of the Simandou project, emphasizing its role in Guinea's industrialization beyond the mining sector. Discussions also focused on leveraging SouthBridge Group's financial expertise to support the restructuring of state-owned enterprises such as électricité de Guinée (EDG) and the creation of a sovereign wealth fund. This visit underscores our commitment to supporting Guinea's ambitious projects, including the Simandou 2040 program, economic rating initiatives, and infrastructure development. I am thrilled to announce that I have successfully concluded my 3 month 2024 Summer Finance Analyst internship at the investment bank, Southbridge Group Rwanda! This experience has been incredibly rewarding, both professionally and personally. I’ve gained great insights into the complexities of the financial landscape in Africa as well as the investment opportunities present, exploring deeply into the intriguing field of financial analysis and research. Every day brought fresh difficulties and educational opportunities that? improved my comprehension of the financial industry. One of the highlights of my internship was the opportunity to collaborate with an outstanding team on various mandates presented to the bank. Working alongside such talented and driven individuals not only broadened my knowledge but also allowed me to contribute meaningfully to our projects. The collaboration, problem-solving, and strategic thinking involved in our meetings were experiences I will carry with me throughout my career. I am deeply grateful to Wooster Apex Experiential Learning and everyone who supported me along the way, especially the incredible team at Southbridge Group. The ‘Navigating Economic Transformation in a Polycrisis World: Strategies for Global Africa’ plenary session started off with remarks from Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, Prof of Economics, Colombia University, who joined us virtually. The session was moderated by CNN Correspondent, Ms. Eleni Giokos, and featured Mr. John A Rolle, Governor, Central Bank of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Former Vice President of Nigeria, Hon. Kevin Greenidge, Governor, Central Bank of Barbados, Dr. Donald Kaberuka, Chairman and Managing Partner, SouthBridge Group and Former President, African Development Bank Group, Dr. Howard Nicholas, Senior Lecturer in Economics at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam and Mr. Denys Denya, Senior Executive Vice President, Afreximbank. During the plenary session Hon. Kevin Greenidge, Governor, Central Bank of the Barbados, stressed the significance of strategic alliances and unity. He remarked, 'With one voice, one global Africa voice, I believe you can make a difference.'
