?? What NOT to Do When Helping Someone Who is Blind ?? ? Don’t Grab or Pull Never grab someone’s arm or push them in a direction. This can be disorienting and make them feel unsafe. ? Don’t Pet or Distract a Guide Dog Service dogs are working animals, not pets. Interacting with them without permission can interfere with their ability to assist. ? Don’t Assume They Need Help Blind individuals are independent! Always ask, “Do you need assistance?” before stepping in. ? Don’t Move Items Without Telling Them If you adjust their belongings or change the environment, let them know. This avoids confusion or accidents. ? Don’t Speak to Their Companion Instead of Them Address the person directly, just as you would anyone else. ?? The Right Thing to Do Treat blind individuals with the same respect and dignity you’d give anyone else. When in doubt, just ask!
