?Scaling e-mobility in Ghana with Article 6 ?? South Pole is proud to support a major milestone in Ghana’s transition to sustainable transport with the signing of an Article 6 Mitigation Action Purchase Agreement (MOPA) between the Swedish Energy Agency and SolarTaxi. Karolien Casaer-Diez, Senior Director for Article 6 at South Pole said: “This?is South Pole’s second major ITMO deal for a transport project, further cementing our leadership on Article 6 carbon finance, supporting governments and project developers in realising high-integrity, Paris-aligned climate impact." As Solar Taxi’s exclusive advisor, South Pole is providing end-to-end support including: ? capital sourcing ? technical design of the mitigation activity ? and ensuring the programme meets high-integrity carbon market standards This agreement enables the large-scale deployment of 48,000 e-motorcycles by 2030, helping decarbonise a sector responsible for nearly 50% of Ghana’s energy-related emissions while cutting an estimated 200,000 tCO2 emissions at least! As a key proof of concept for international carbon finance, the deal demonstrates how Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement can unlock funding for high-integrity climate solutions. The EU’s Clean Industrial Deal is a major push to align industrial competitiveness with climate ambition, accelerating low-carbon innovation where it’s needed most.? It is critical that we decarbonise our economies, especially hard-to-abate sectors such as heavy industry and power generation, which together account for the majority of GHG emissions.?? ?? High-integrity carbon markets and carbon pricing schemes like the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) play a key role in supporting this process by driving demand for carbon removal initiatives and reinforcing net zero strategies through compliance obligations. Such approaches need to be? well-structured, which the EU has assured it will do this year. ?? Ambitious climate regulation is also key.?Streamlining sustainability regulations and consolidating existing rules will simplify compliance and reduce the burden on businesses. Striking the balance between efficiency and accountability is key to advancing reporting, integrity, and transparency in the EU’s decarbonisation agenda and in the sustainability strategy of companies. Biomethane Certificates Biomethane certificates are gaining significant attention despite the missing clarity in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol guidance. Businesses are seeking diverse renewable energy solutions and many are now exploring biomethane. This is also leading to growing pressure to get them recognised as a reduction in the GHG Protocol. ?Carbon Removals Interest in carbon removals is at an all-time high! In the ever-dynamic carbon market, carbon removals are no longer a pipe dream. Companies are exploring how both nature-based and technological carbon removals can play a part in their sustainability journeys now and in the longer term. Biochar, direct air capture, BECCS, and forestry projects seem to be especially sought after. ? Corporate Climate Action Despite external challenges, corporate climate action is still moving forward—businesses are actively seeking ways to decarbonize and meet sustainability goals. When it comes to sourcing PPAs in new markets, establishing climate transition plans, or developing renewable energy strategies, the goal remains: Net zero. ??
