  • Happy International Women’s Day! Today, we honor and celebrate all women—those working in mental health, those navigating their own mental health journeys, and all women who show resilience, strength, and courage in everyday life. • When someone is struggling with their mental health, the last thing they need to hear is a barrage of "just think positive" or "it could be worse." While these statements often come from a place of care, they can inadvertently dismiss the very real feelings that someone is experiencing. This is what I refer to as toxic positivity—a well-intentioned but harmful approach that minimizes the emotional struggle someone is going through. In contrast, genuine optimism embraces the reality of the situation while offering hope. It acknowledges that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed, sad, or anxious, but gently encourages looking toward brighter days without invalidating the person's current emotions. Genuine optimism doesn't rush the healing process; it allows room for difficult emotions while still recognizing the possibility of improvement. When it comes to supporting someone with mental health challenges, it's essential to provide empathy and understanding rather than oversimplifying their experience with "feel-good" phrases. Instead of brushing their pain aside, we can offer our support by simply being there, listening, and saying, “I’m here for you, and we can take this one step at a time.” As therapists, we believe in helping people navigate their struggles with compassion and realistic hope. It's about empowering them to feel seen and heard while gently guiding them toward healing, one day at a time. #toxicpositivity #genuineoptimism

  • Morning anxiety often stems from a combination of physiological and psychological factors. When you wake up, your body naturally produces cortisol, a hormone that helps you feel alert but can also heighten feelings of stress. If you’re under chronic stress, this cortisol spike may feel overwhelming. Additionally, unresolved worries from the previous day or overthinking upcoming responsibilities can make mornings feel especially heavy. Poor sleep or waking up abruptly can also leave your nervous system out of balance, making it harder to find calm. Sometimes, even simple things like low blood sugar or consuming caffeine on an empty stomach can amplify feelings of unease. These factors combined create a sense of anxiety that feels hard to shake but is entirely manageable with the right strategies and support. #sleephealth

  • When you show up for your inner child, you create a space of self-compassion, healing, and growth. You reconnect with your true self and learn to nurture the emotional needs that may have been neglected. This process helps you build healthier relationships, let go of old patterns, and move toward emotional freedom. You deserve to show up for the parts of yourself that need love, understanding, and care. ?? Kirk Steven Johnson, M.A., LPC, LAC, SAT #healinginnerchild #innerchild

  • Healing a trauma that felt impossible is like stepping into a new world. ?? You start to notice the little things—peaceful moments, lighter days, and a quiet mind. It’s not about forgetting what happened; it’s about no longer letting it define you. The weight you carried for so long begins to lift, and you finally feel like you can move forward. Healing takes time, patience, and a lot of work, but it’s worth it when it happens. It’s about finally finding space for joy and hope in your life again. • Childhood trauma can shape how we think, feel, and respond to the world, often without us even realizing it. Unresolved trauma doesn’t just stay in the past—it can affect our mental health, relationships, and physical well-being for years to come. When a child experiences trauma, their brain and body adapt to survive, but those survival patterns—like avoiding closeness, constant fear, or anger—can persist into adulthood. These responses may lead to struggles with trust, anxiety, low self-esteem, or difficulty managing emotions. Addressing childhood trauma isn’t about dwelling on the past but understanding how it affects the present. It’s a path toward healing, breaking free from old patterns, and creating healthier ways to connect with yourself and others. Seeking help, such as counseling or therapy, can be life-changing. It’s never too late to heal, and doing so can lead to a stronger, more resilient version of yourself. If you feel like your past might still be influencing your present, reaching out to a trusted professional can be a powerful first step toward reclaiming your peace. ??
