Today is National Food Bank Day, dedicated to raising awareness about hunger and promoting ways to help those in need. During challenging times, families struggle to put food on the table. SACSS’s food pantry is vital in providing essential, culturally palatable food items weekly to 1,700 families and individuals facing food insecurity. The pantry's impact goes beyond just providing meals; it’s about giving families the dignity and support they need during tough times and fostering community and compassion. We thank our dedicated volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to ensure that families in need have access to nutritious food. We are also profoundly grateful to our supporters for their contributions. In collaboration with our partners in the Asian American Federation's Asian Seniors Working Group, SACSS Executive Director Sudha Acharya and Family Support Services Director Mary Archana Fernandez attended a productive and insightful meeting on July 31 with NYC Department of Social Services Commissioner Molly Park and NYC Human Resources Administration Administrator Scott French. Several topics were discussed, such as combating SNAP Benefits theft and public benefits enrollment for senior citizens. SACSS looks forward to the significant impact our continued collaboration with our community partners and city officials will have on enhancing the well-being of Asian seniors in our city.
