We are so very thrilled to congratulate Judge Mustafa Kasubhai (he/him) on this historic confirmation! Today marks a significant milestone in the history of the United States judiciary as Judge Mustafa Kasubhai has been confirmed to a lifetime appointment in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. This historic confirmation underscores Judge Kasubhai's distinguished legal career and unwavering dedication to justice and also celebrates his groundbreaking achievement as the first South Asian and Muslim lifetime judge in the District of Oregon.
SABA North America congratulates Judge Mustafa Kasubhai on his confirmation to the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon! Judge Kasubhai made history in 2018 as the first Muslim American judge to serve on the federal bench when he was appointed as a magistrate judge. Now, he’ll also be the first Asian American judge to serve in the District of Oregon and only the third Muslim American district court judge in the country. Judge Kasubhai is the son of Indian immigrants and grew up in California, where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of California-Berkeley in 1992. He then moved to Oregon and graduated from the University of Oregon’s law school in 1996. He practiced civil law until 2003, primarily representing injured workers and union members in employment cases. He was appointed to a full-time position on the Oregon Workers’ Compensation Board in 2003.?He then served as a circuit judge before his appointment as a federal magistrate judge in 2018. As President, Keerthi Sugumaran remarked: "We are proud of Judge Kasubhai's recent confirmation. He is an accomplished jurist and a founding member of SABA Oregon. His appointment also ensures that the judiciary continues to reflect and represent the rich diversity of Oregon."

Be sure to join us for our next joint affinity bar event - we'll let you once we have something planned :)
