Diabetes care is a sweet priority for older persons living with HIV (OPLHIV 50+)—and it’s about time the system catches up! The #50PlusProject is leading the charge to advocate for better, more inclusive diabetes care, treatment and management services for those aged 50+ living with HIV and status-neutral individuals. Why? Because aging boldly means addressing co-infections and multimorbidities, from HIV care to managing noncommunicable diseases like diabetes. Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the #50PlusProject reaffirms its commitment to fostering a society free from violence. We call on everyone to unlearn and relearn, addressing the deep-seated patriarchy that fuels violence against women and girls—and recognizing that violence in all forms, including men-on-men violence, must end. We’re published! The #50PlusProject Scoping Report is featured in the latest edition of #SAHCS HIV Nursing Matters! This groundbreaking article spotlights the challenges faced by older persons living with HIV (#OPLHIV) aged 50+, as the country’s maturing HIV response meets the realities of aging. While we celebrate advances in HIV treatment and longer life expectancy, we also confront multimorbidities like diabetes, hypertension, and the long-term impacts of HIV. These health issues reveal significant gaps in healthcare services that demand urgent attention. To truly "leave no one behind," we must focus on the growing vulnerability of this demographic and allow communities to lead the way in shaping responsive healthcare systems.
