One week ago, Sourceable CEO and Founder Lena Arkawi, was a panelist at an event organized by the United Nations Association of New York ?? and Columbia University - Graduate School of Journalism. The panelists, including Mounir Ibrahim, Sam Gregory, and moderator Anya Schiffrin, engaged in a discussion on AI journalism and its implications for human rights reporting. Here are three key takeaways from the dialogue: 1.? ?Authenticity Verification: While deepfakes often dominate discussions around misinformation, human rights defenders grapple with proving the authenticity of their content amidst public skepticism. Verifying the authenticity of videos created by others remains a significant challenge, necessitating quick and reliable methods for authentication. This includes providing detailed metadata such as time and place of creation and any alterations made, alongside implementing new deepfake laws to effectively combat these challenges. 2.? ?Access and Equity: Achieving detection equity poses a substantial hurdle, with not everyone having access to the necessary detection tools, which are also vulnerable to compromise. Relying solely on the general public to discern between authentic and fake content is neither feasible nor sustainable. Therefore, there is a pressing need to prioritize transparency, even as malicious actors continue to exploit open-source environments. 3.? ?Interdependence of Human Rights and Technology: The intersection of human rights and technology will increasingly shape a new era of human rights. As we navigate this evolving landscape, it is crucial to recognize the interdependence between these fields, which will profoundly influence our understanding of human identity and values. Through continued collaboration and innovative approaches, we can harness the potential of technology to advance human rights globally. The Sourceable Team is so grateful to be a part of this engaging event and we want to say thank you to everyone who made it possible! #AI #humanrights #reporting #media #jouranlism #sourceable
