Like many companies, they struggled with the challenges of managing audiogram testing across multiple locations. Coordinating schedules was time-consuming, logistically tricky, and costly. I read something a few years ago that completely changed my perspective as a dad to two little girls (1 and 4). The gist was that no matter how my day went or what I came home to—crying, a messy house, a tired partner—none of it mattered. Because when I'm older, and the girls have moved out, I’d give anything to relive the chaos that meets me at the door every day. Our hearing works the same way. If we don’t protect it, we lose it—and there’s no getting it back (except with hearing aids). This is why Jeff, myself, and the Soundtrace team are on a mission we care deeply about. "Hearing loss isn’t a problem at our company." I hear this a lot. Last year, I would have said the same thing about my own family. But then I was telling Courtney, my wife, that just moderate hearing loss increases the risk of dementia by 300%—and 500% for severe loss, according to a Johns Hopkins study from 2023. Her grandfather, who worked the night shift at P&G making toothpaste for 45 years, developed dementia in his late 60s. She mentioned he had pretty bad hearing loss. Could it have caused his dementia? We’ll never know. Hearing loss was always present in my family; we just never recognized it. This is often the case for many companies. The data is there, but it’s buried in static PDFs.
