Founded in 2017, Sound Sustainable Farms transforms the communities recycled food waste into nutrient rich compost used to grow 50+WSDA Certified Organic vegetables on 65 acres in Redmond, WA. We are devoted to building and maintaining healthy soils by using compost, cover crops and rotating crops. We reject the use of synthetic insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and fertilizers-offering a certified organic product to families, schools, stadiums, food processors and restaurants throughout the region. Closing the Sustainability Loop on Farm to Table. We harvest and deliver direct commercially and residentially in Pierce, King and Thurston County and actively seek roles in supporting food rescue programs and feeding impoverished communities. We have a manufacture direct compostable packaging and can often provide relief if not using Cedar Grove for Organics Recycling.

In the first 7 months of our Industrial Symbiosis Grant, Lettuce Help Center has diverted over 1.7 million pounds of food from landfills and distributed it to over 70 local food security organizations and restaurants. Demonstrating significant success in reducing food waste and supporting community nourishment. In September 2023, Seattle Good Business Network won a Department of Commerce grant award with Jeremy Vrablik and Jillian Moore of Cascadia Produce, and Cedar Grove to set up a food rescue hub and marketplace to divert good food from the landfill, and pay farmers and producers for their food. In short order, Good Food Exchange and the Lettuce Help Center were launched, accepting and selling or donating farm surplus and wholesale food rejected before it ever hits the retail floor. Romaine with slightly twisted ribs. Tomatoes with three tomatoes on a vine instead of 4. In other words, freshly harvested, really good food. This surplus and recovered food has been distributed to over 70 food security organizations, including GoodRoots, where customers can shop for free fresh food in a market setting or pick up on their own schedule. It's also gone to restaurants like Mojito, that is turning this rescued food into nourishing free meals for communities in need and on their menu for all to enjoy. I am still blown away by the impact we only had an inkling of -- in just the first 7 months, this initiative has diverted over 1.7 million pounds of good food from the landfill and onto plates across our region. I am so grateful for our partners whose constant creativity and big vision for a better food system keep challenging the narrative of what's possible.
