The opioid settlement funds were meant to support innovative programs that address the opioid crisis in meaningful, long-term ways. Sound Justice Initiative is exactly the kind of program these funds were designed for. There is no other program like ours. We work closely with treatment centers, courts, parole and probation in Suffolk County to help justice-involved individuals rebuild their lives. Our approach is comprehensive, focusing on education and skills training as vital components of recovery and reintegration. The results speak for themselves: nearly 9 out of 10 participants with opioid use disorder in our program are active in our program, enrolled in school or vocational training. Together, building brighter futures for themselves and their communities. We want to thank Suffolk County, NY for recognizing the forward-thinking work we're doing and for supporting us. Through their partnership, they are not only supporting our reentry participants but strengthening all of our communities. We’re making an impact. And we’re just getting started.

We’re delighted to share that Sound Justice Initiative had the honor of participating in Sheriff Toulon’s Back to School Fair. This event was a testament to the power of community collaboration, with nearly 900 backpacks equipped with school supplies being distributed to local children. It was a packed house, filled with excited kids waiting for the new school year to start. Our sincere thanks go to all the organizers, volunteers, and participants who came together to support this wonderful cause. We’re also thrilled to welcome our new intern, Chyna King, who brings enthusiasm and fresh perspectives to our team. Chyna’s energy and innovative ideas are a significant addition to our team, made possible through our partnership with YouthBuild-LI. This organization’s dedication to overcoming barriers for Long Island’s young adults is nothing short of inspiring, aligning perfectly with our goals to mentor and support justice-involved individuals in our community. As we expand our reentry Education Pathway Program, we're thrilled to collaborate with a broad network of government and non-government agencies. This expansion is a testament to our dedication to creating a more inclusive, supportive, and empowering environment for justice-involved individuals. Our approach to reentry is comprehensive, designed to meet our participants where they are and guide them towards a future they may have never thought possible. Here's how we make a difference: Career and Educational Counseling: We provide personalized counseling to help our participants understand their strengths, explore their interests, and navigate the path towards a fulfilling career. This initial step is crucial for setting the stage for success. Assistance with College and Vocational Admissions Applications: Navigating the admissions process can be daunting. Our team offers hands-on support in completing applications, ensuring that our participants can access the educational opportunities that await them. Funding Support: We understand that financial barriers can deter many from pursuing further education. SJI assists in identifying and applying for funding, including scholarships and grants, making education more accessible. Academic and Financial Aid Meetings Attendance: Our commitment extends beyond application support. We attend academic and financial aid meetings with our participants, advocating for their needs and ensuring they receive the support they require. Continuous Mentoring: Our relationship with our participants doesn't end when classes begin. We offer ongoing mentoring throughout their educational journey and into their careers, providing guidance, support and encouragement every step of the way. Through these efforts, we're not just offering services; we're igniting hope, fostering resilience, and empowering individuals to see beyond their past. Our educational journey emphasizes not only academic achievement but also personal empowerment, self-worth, and the recognition that redemption and reintegration into society are within reach.
