Greetings, Good People: On behalf of The Black Healing Project, I’m thrilled to announce our first-ever Black Futures Scholarship Award winner: James Preston. This scholarship supports Black college students who are passionate about education and making a positive impact in their communities. It provides financial support to help students achieve their goals while uplifting the next generation of Black leaders. James, a first-year Psychology major at SUNY Geneseo and a graduate of Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School, embodies the resilience, creativity, and passion we celebrate at Soulstainable Living LLC and The Black Healing Project. Last month, he received $250 to use however he chooses—because we believe in giving our students the freedom to thrive. Stay tuned for more on James’ journey and the impact he’s sure to make. Congratulations, James—we’re so proud of you! Image description: A young, Black male scholar looking into his bright future. Photo courtesy of his mama, Vernique Burrell.

How Can Non-Black Folks Support The Black Healing Project? We’ve had some people ask how they can show up for us—and we appreciate the love! While The Black Healing Project is intentionally created for Black folks, non-Black accomplices play an important role in supporting our mission. Here’s how you can stand with us in meaningful ways: DONATE: Your financial contributions help us expand our healing programs, events, and resources for Black communities. SPREAD THE WORD: Share our mission, website, and social media posts with your networks. Help amplify the power of Black healing! SUPPORT OUR MERCHANDISE—INTENTIONALLY: Purchasing a BHP T-shirt is a powerful way to show solidarity, but be intentional about wearing it. When you wear BHP merchandise, understand that you’re representing a movement for Black liberation and joy. It’s a reminder to listen, support, and uplift without taking up space. Wear it with love and humility. T-Shirts are currently on sale. One non-Black supporter just bought two shirts: one to keep and one to donate. LISTEN AND LEARN: Engage with the content we share and actively uplift Black voices in your spaces. Remember, this is about supporting without centering yourself. It’s all about amplifying Black joy and liberation. SUPPORT BLACK BUSINESSES AND INITIATIVES: Go beyond BHP and actively support Black-owned businesses and Black-led projects in your community and beyond. Use your spending power to invest in Black entrepreneurship and creativity. SUPPORT OUR EVENTS—FROM THE SIDELINES: IF you’re invited to an event or gathering, remember that your role as an accomplice is to support from the background. Listen, learn, and uplift Black voices rather than taking center stage. Note: most of our events will be for Black folks. SHARE RESOURCES AND PARTNERSHIPS: If you have access to resources—whether it’s professional networks, spaces, or platforms—consider how you can help BHP expand its reach. Offer support by connecting us to opportunities or providing in-kind contributions, but always remember that BHP is a Black-centered space. COMMIT TO LONGTIME ALLYSHIP: Supporting Black healing isn’t a one-time effort. It’s about long-term, consistent action. Whether through continued financial contributions, volunteering, or consistently amplifying Black voices, commit to staying engaged. Thank you for standing with us in love and solidarity. Your allyship is important to us, but we will not accept performative allyship. The world is hard enough without being complicit in our own undoing. The Black Healing Project is about healing, not harm. All Black lives matter. Today and every day. Check out our website at theblackhealingproject dot com

Day 23 of The Black Healing Project Social Media Roll-Out: I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley’s Luminary awards. I served this organization for 10 years, as a volunteer, Board member, and Voices of Experience committee Chair. I’m proud of the legacy and impact of this important work. Healing is not just a personal journey; it’s a collective one. When we engage in community work, we contribute to the healing and empowerment of those around us. Every act of service, every moment spent uplifting others, brings us closer to a stronger, more resilient community. At The Black Healing Project, we believe that true healing happens when we come together, support one another, and work towards a common goal. Community work is a powerful way to transform pain into purpose, creating spaces where everyone can thrive. Whether it’s mentoring youth, supporting local businesses, or advocating for social justice, your efforts are vital to our collective well-being. Let’s continue to build and heal together, one act of service at a time. Thank you to my family for their support. And thank you to WFGV and their dynamic ED, Krystle Ellis, for this honor. Congratulations to my co-honorees. I’m in good company.

Day 22 of The Black Healing Project Social Media Roll-Out: Just as the sun sets at the end of each day, signaling the close of another chapter, we can use this time to release the negative energy and connections that no longer serve us. The sunset offers a powerful reminder that letting go is a natural part of growth, paving the way for renewal and a fresh start. At The Black Healing Project, we understand that true healing requires us to release what holds us back—whether it’s unproductive relationships, outdated mindsets, or lingering doubts. As the sun sets today, consider what you need to let go of in your life and work. Embrace this opportunity for reflection and renewal, knowing that with every sunset comes the promise of a new beginning. As you move forward, allow yourself to step into a space of peace and growth. Let the sunset inspire you to release, renew, and prepare for the possibilities of a new day.

Day 21 of the Black Healing Project Social Media Roll-Out: There’s something profoundly healing about leafy greens—especially when they come from a friend’s garden. These greens may have a few minor imperfections, but that’s what makes them real and reminds us that healing isn’t about striving for perfection. It’s about embracing the beauty in our growth, flaws and all. Gardening, much like our personal and professional journeys, is about more than just planting seeds; it’s about reconnecting with our roots, nurturing our spirits, and fostering community wellness. The greens I received from a friend’s garden symbolize the healing we find in community and the strength we draw from sharing our bounty, even when it’s not perfect. As we continue to focus on collective growth and healing, stay connected with The Black Healing Project. Follow us throughout Black August as we share insights, resources, and stories dedicated to community wellness and empowerment. Day 20 of The Black Healing Project Social Media Roll-Out Rain is more than just a natural occurrence; it is the lifeblood of our planet. Water nourishes the earth, enabling plants to grow and ecosystems to thrive. Similarly, our spirits require moments of cleansing and renewal. At The Black Healing Project, we are committed to facilitating these moments of healing—helping to wash away the old, refresh our souls, and foster new growth. Our dedication reaches Black communities across the globe, as we work to nurture spaces where Black healing can truly flourish. Just as rain brings life and sustenance to the earth, our efforts are focused on cultivating environments where collective healing and empowerment can take root. Let rain serve as a reminder that with every challenge comes the opportunity to cleanse, renew, and grow. Follow Soulstainable Living on social media throughout Black August for more insights, resources, and stories centered on healing and empowerment.
