ICYMI: In this article, Katie Macc, CEO of the Sorenson Impact Institute, revisits her personal journey of eating only locally grown foods, reflecting on the challenges and benefits of the process. ?? Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g7DZHr7A?
I think if we investigate a bit, we'll find that most of the current problems with our food system exist because it's doing exactly what it was designed to do: maximize profits for a consolidated small number of large companies. It was never designed to optimize for human and planetary health. We need a dramatic redesign. I'm exploring whether some of the most important questions we might ask as we dream and redesign might be influenced by diving deep into inherently unscalable solutions, looking at small, local community CSAs, small local diverse farms focused on nutrition and soil health. I wrote a short essay about joining a local year-round, full-diet omnivore's CSA, here. It's the next installment in our family's local food challenge -- and I'm so excited. Our Co-Founder & COO David Jette recently attended the Sorenson Impact Summit, where the conversation on increasing economic inequality and the growing wealth gap is becoming more urgent than ever. For millions, there is little to no opportunity to pass down wealth or attain key milestones like homeownership or higher education, and economic mobility is even less attainable for many people than it was for their parents. At Homium, we believe "homeownership is a key tool that can be used to combat income and economic inequality...its one of the legacy sources of that inequality," and must be part of the solution. We are committed to creating innovative capital solutions to bridge the homeownership gap and driving generational wealth for more families.
