关于我们
Our Story: The Latino Equality Alliance was founded in January of 2009, as a direct response to the passing of Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that took marriage rights away from same-sex couples. As Latine/x LGBTQ+ activists worked to dismantle Prop 8, our founders recognized a need for building a coalition and coordinated efforts to increase support for LGBTQ+ rights within the Latine/x community. As a result, an alliance of individuals and representatives from several organizations formed the Latino Equality Alliance. LEA's founding mission was to promote liberty, justice, and equality for the Latine/x LGBTQ+ community. Today, as an organization, LEA focuses on building power within the Latinx LGBTQ+ community and advocating for systemic changes that promote healthy and safe environments in schools, homes and neighborhoods for LGBTQ+ youth and families. We ground our work through public education, organized actions, coalition building and leadership development. Our Mission: The mission of Latino Equality Alliance (LEA), a project of Community Partners, is to advocate for safety, equity, and wellness for the Latinx Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer + community. Our organization strongly focuses on youth empowerment, family acceptance, educational equity, public health, and civic engagement. Through coalitions, we strive to build power to elevate the LGBTQ+ voices in Boyle Heights and the greater East Side communities of Los Angeles.

Here are some moments from L.A. CADA's Grand Opening of their new Serenity House, "a boutique residential treatment program with 18 beds, situated on nearly an acre in beautiful Altadena, California." This historical location is specifically geared to provide queer and trans individuals with Withdrawal Management, Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient, and Recovery Support. Our queer and trans connection team, QT Connect, attended this monumental opening on, November 4th, and had an incredible time listening to county officials speak about their personal journeys in making this space possible in Los Angeles. Here at LEA, our QT Connect team performs substance use, harm reduction, and queer/trans support groups that parallel LA CADA's work on a more local and grassroots scale in Southeast LA (SELA) as well as in Boyle Heights. Please feel free to contact us for any connections to the aforementioned topics, as well as to connect your clients with resources such as the LA CADA Serenity House! https://lnkd.in/gV65V3ne #SomosLea #LatinoEqualityAlliance #MentalHealth

This past Sunday, it was a privilege for Latino Equality Alliance to serve as the host site for the Prop 3 Get Out the Vote rally. We were honored by the visit of Governor Gavin Newsom, whose presence at our office underscored the significance of this movement to enshrine marriage equality in California’s Constitution. This rally marked a historic moment in our journey to remove the lingering impact of Proposition 8 and to affirm a future of true equality in our state. We extend our deepest gratitude to our esteemed speakers, who brought energy and commitment to the event: ?? Tony Hoang, Executive Director of Equality California ?? Ari Gutierrez Arambula, MBA, Board Member of Latino Equality Alliance ??Terra Russell-Slavin, Esq., Chief Impact Officer of the Los Angeles LGBT Center ?? Jesse Tyler Ferguson ?? Governor Gavin Newsom Let’s carry this powerful momentum to the polls—Vote YES on Prop 3 and ensure that marriage equality becomes a permanent right in California’s Constitution. Together, we are making history! ????? #Prop3 #MarriageEquality #LatinoEqualityAlliance #VoteYesOnProp3 #EqualityForAll

Last week, LEA had the exciting opportunity to participate in the "Lights On After School" event in Huntington Park! ?? This vibrant gathering showcased the vital role that after-school programs play in enriching our children's lives and strengthening our communities. We were honored to be joined by the dedicated members of our Youth Organizers United Council (Y.O.U.), who presented an impressive pamphlet they created. ?? It emphasized the critical importance of voting, highlighting valuable resources and advocating for voting rights—because every voice matters! ??? A heartfelt thank you to our outstanding youth leaders, Brigette and Silvia, for delivering powerful speeches on the intersections of voting rights, substance use, and the necessity of safe school environments. Your insights not only educated but also inspired everyone in attendance! ?? Together, we are building a brighter future for our youth, and events like these remind us of the power of community engagement. Let’s keep the momentum going! ?? #LatinoEqualityAlliance #LEA #LGBTQ+ #NonProfit #SouthEastLosAngeles? #Impact? #Changemaker #Community?? #Inclusivity
