Our Co-Executive Director, Victor Vasquez, alongside Sean Allen, President of the NAACP San Jose/Silicon Valley, and Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits CEO, Kyra Kazantzis, are strongly opposing Mayor Mahan’s proposal to arrest homeless individuals who decline shelter. As highlighted in the article, this policy would disproportionately impact Black and Brown communities, raising the discrimination our community already faces. ? ?NOW OPEN? We had an amazing time last Friday at our grand opening for our new Hubbard Family Resource Center. Our FRCs are spaces for families in the community to come together, organize, and receive resources. We want to take the time to thank everyone that showed up to this event and a big shoutout to the amazing FRC team for continuing to create a welcoming environment for all families in ESJ! Thank you as well to our speakers Supervisor Betty Duong, Esq. , City Council member Bien Doan, Dr. Dianna J. Ballesteros, Jennifer Kelleher Cloyd, Annya Artigas and Hubbard Principal, Sandra Puerta-Sarmiento Ed.d

Martin Luther King Jr. was a visionary leader who fought to end segregation and inspire justice by affirming the dignity and value of people of color. His legacy continues to guide us at SOMOS as we work to dismantle systemic barriers and create opportunities for our communities to thrive. Through organizing, education, and advocacy, we honor Dr. King’s vision by advancing racial and economic justice, fostering leadership, and building equity here in Mayfair and beyond. Today, we celebrate his life and recommit to the work of justice and liberation.
