Congratulations to the firm’s Laura Benitez Geisler, Sean McCaffity, Jody Rodenberg and Rebecca Neumann for securing a federal court jury verdict of $21.35 million verdict on behalf of a former East Texas police captain who was wrongfully fired after alleging unlawful collusion among elected officials in Wood County. The jury’s verdict specified $18 million in compensatory damages in addition to $3.35 million in punitive damages against the four defendants, which included the former county sheriff, district attorney, a state district judge and mayor of Quitman. The Fifth U.S. Court of Appeals recently upheld a lower court’s denial of a motion for summary judgment sought by the defendants in the case.
