Women in Manufacturing: The Backbone of Innovation Manufacturing is seen by some as a field predominantly employing males, but the truth is, countless women are driving innovation and excellence behind the scenes every day. We had the incredible opportunity to tell the stories of some of these powerhouse women in Southwest Virginia through this video, created with Lennie Gail Mitcham?and?Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing. Special thanks to?Michele Campbell?and?Somic America Inc.?for hosting the shoot, and to these amazing women who brought this piece to life: ?Tammy Graham?–?Somic America Inc. ? I had the honor of spending time last week in southwest Virginia with some of the most inspiring and hardworking women who just happened to choose careers in manufacturing. These ladies are warm, welcoming, and hysterically funny. Just minutes after introducing ourselves, we were laughing so hard at our table that it shook off all my nervous energy before walking onto the stage. I was invited to deliver the keynote address and moderate a panel of truly accomplished women who shared their unique successes, struggles, and strengths. What a community! Ronda Holt - Sales Manager at Samuel Pressure Vessel Group Brooke Eskridge - Welder at Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company Michelle Campbell - HR Manager at Somic America Inc. Laura Smith - Drafting/CAD Instructor at Washington County Career Tech Center Thank you, Lennie Gail Mitcham and the Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing for the invitation and for organizing such an excellently planned and executed event. I look forward to attending again next year!

  • Recapping our latest team meetings in both Maine and Virginia, where we were able to come together and synchronize our goals, objectives, and business strategy between our two plants going forward! Somic America remains focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and employee development at both the Wytheville, VA, and Brewer, ME, facilities. While Q3 saw strong quality and financial performance, safety remains a top priority, with action plans in place to reduce incident rates. Looking ahead to Q4 and 2025, we are making key investments in training, facility upgrades, and automation to enhance productivity. Additionally, we are reinforcing our commitment to employee engagement, community involvement, and continuous improvement, ensuring alignment and success across both locations. Key Takeaways from Brewer, ME: ??Safety Performance: No OSHA recordables since September; focus on hand safety and near-miss reporting. ??Training & Development: Completed and upcoming safety, leadership, and technical training for employees. ??Quality Performance: Strong customer satisfaction with Toyota and other clients. ??Facilities & Equipment: Ongoing infrastructure improvements (stair repairs, ventilation, remodeling) and new equipment arriving in 2025. ??Employee Engagement: Work anniversaries, new hires, employee advisory board initiatives. ??Community Involvement: Participation in charity events and local sponsorships. Key Takeaways from Wytheville, VA: ??Safety Performance: Action plans in place to reduce incidents of OSHA recordables. ??Quality & Productivity: Zero major quality performance misses (0 KPM), maintaining 100% on-time delivery. ??Financial Performance: Staying under budget year-to-date. ??Future Goals (2025): Investments in new machining and automation to enhance efficiency. ??Customer Demand: Stable production needs with peak months planned in 2025. ??Employee Recognition: Service milestones and efforts in culture-building initiatives.

Somic America Takes the Plunge! A spirited team from Somic America braved the icy waters at the 2025 New River Polar Plunge in Radford, Virginia. Surrounded by an incredible community, our team took the plunge alongside friends, family, and colleagues—all for a great cause. Heated changing tents provided some relief, but nothing could beat the excitement and chills of the big splash into the plunge pools. Plungers raised $100 each to support 20,000 Special Olympics athletes, with many—like Team Somic—banding together to pool resources and double the fun. A huge shoutout to everyone who braced for the frozen pools with us and made this event a success. All proceeds contributed towards benefitting Special Olympics programs in Virginia, helping create more opportunities for these amazing athletes!

  • In response to the recent flooding devastation in our area, Somic America was grateful for the opportunity to support those affected by providing flood buckets filled with essential cleaning supplies to a volunteer-run food pantry in Welch, WV. To further assist, we also donated a hand truck to help distribution, ensuring that food, water and supplies reach those in critical need. This effort was especially close to our hearts, as four of our employees in the area went without power for six days and were cut off from road access. Seeing the challenges their community faced reinforced our commitment to doing what we can to help. We’re incredibly thankful for the quick and compassionate efforts of our team, who came together to make this possible. Your willingness to support others in difficult times truly reflect the values we strive to uphold. Thank you for making a difference!

On February 14th, we celebrated Fueling Somic Day at our manufacturing plants in Maine and Virginia, launching our new culture initiative, Fueling Somic for the Road Ahead, along with four foundational values that will guide our future. These values—Learn and Grow, Pioneer with Purpose, Value Every Voice, and Own Our Actions—are key to our evolution as a company. To bring them to life, we engaged our team with activities designed not just for fun, but to deepen our understanding of these principles and how they shape our path forward. From a tower building competition with jenga blocks, to Somic trivia, a friendly game of value Bingo, and a polaroid photo booth to add to our commitment wall, each activity reinforced our dedication to growth and collaboration. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this culture launch a meaningful success! Let's continue to grow together towards the future! ??
