America continues to be a land of opportunity. I came to this realization during a 24-hour trip to Dallas, Texas this week. As you are aware, this week marked 2 historical events; the United States presidential election and my 36th birthday. :) Being in a hotel room away from my family, dogs, and emotional support snacks, wasn’t how I had originally envisioned spending my week, however, it turned out to be incredibly grounding and provided me a lesson on perspective. ?? In Dallas, I found myself connecting with people from all over the world—those from the UK, Thailand, Bosnia, California, Texas, Australia, and Iran. One of my first questions to them was about the election results. Their responses varied, reflecting different levels of familiarity with American politics, but an underlying theme resonated: while America appears divided, we all share an incredible privilege to live in a nation full of opportunity.? ?? Later that evening, on a whim, I bought last-minute tickets to see Pink perform. Standing in the packed arena, surrounded by people of every background and belief, I felt a profound sense of unity. We were all there together, celebrating life and music, a reminder that despite our differences, we can still find common ground and see the good in each other.? ?? This trip also sparked reflections on the future of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in America. There’s been much debate about DEI’s staying power, but the energy I witnessed in that concert crowd left me hopeful. Over the past several decades, we’ve made significant strides in inclusivity, and the momentum is too strong and important to be halted. It’s part of our country’s DNA, even if progress is sometimes uneven.?Now, more than ever it's important for us to continue to uplift underrepresented populations and ensure they are seen, heard, valued, and safe. ?? In the end, my time in Dallas reminded me that America’s strength lies in our resilience and our shared humanity. We’re a nation that believes in progress and the power of unity. Despite challenges, our collective spirit and privilege to pursue opportunity keep us moving forward. Shout out to old friends and new who made my birthday a moment of reflection, pause, connection, and fun!
