I’ve been thinking a lot about this recent executive order: “President Donald J. Trump Announces Actions to Make Healthcare Prices Transparent” Healthcare is the only industry where you can get a bill months after receiving a service — *with no clue* what it’s going to cost beforehand. In fact, I recently went to my very modern, very tech forward primary care doc, and months later got a bill for $500 out of pocket for my annual well check, and another $500 for a 15 minute follow up telemedicine visit. Wait, what?! When you ask people who’ve worked in healthcare for a long time to explain this curiosity, they’ll tell you that giving the patient a price is impossible. That thanks to your your specific insurance plan details + the negotiated rates of that particular provider + what kind of facility you are sitting in +?the uncertainty of what actually will happen in that visit — that you cannot know what it will cost.? Well - that’s not true. And fortunately, this happens to be a bipartisan issue that unquestionably makes sense. I’ve been talking about three basic, yet seemingly impossible questions since we started Solv. Where can I go? When can I be seen? How much will it cost? On the first two, we’ve helped ~80M+ patients get the care the need since we launched the company. And this year we’ll be able to add “how much will it cost” to the list. We have an incredible product in beta across multiple customers which enable the consumer to understand their out of pocket expense, and enable the provider to get paid. Imagine that!! Someone gets a service, and that service provider gets paid the same day. It’s possible. In the meanwhile, I hope the administration keeps the pressure on. I’ve always believed it’ll take some combination of innovative healthcare players,?consumers and regulation pushing in the same direction to make price transparency happen and I think we might finally be at the tipping point. More on this soon!

Last week, the Urgent Care Association held its Capitol Hill Advocacy Day, an initiative to push for policies that support the urgent care industry. ??? Solv’s April Gillam, joined the discussions with key policymakers - here's what you need to know: 1?? Overcrowded ERs need urgent care. Nearly 30% of ER visits could be treated in urgent care, but under 1% of UC visits require an ER transfer. 2?? Medicare & Medicaid patients need urgent care access.?Policymakers want data on UC visit volume and how shifting non-emergent cases from the ER could cut costs. 3?? New policies are in exploration. CMS is exploring “enhanced urgent care centers” in 2026, and UCA is working to ensure they meet real-world patient demand and clinic operations. ? Follow April for real-time updates on what's next.
