Using data from SolarKal, U.S. Energy Information Administration revealed in a recent study that #utility rates have increased. The average escalation rate for retail commercial and industrial electricity prices is about 2.5% for states leading in solar energy, driven by factors like weather and regulations. As utility prices begin to rise, switching to solar offers a long-term solution that will stabilize energy costs. While the standard escalation rate has traditionally been 2%, businesses should consider this new rate in financial planning. To learn more about the study, read here: https://ow.ly/ecwa50U9vYq

Arizona Public Service is concerned with possible impacts on services reliability and costs for their existing customers, as 10 GW of pending #datacenter interconnection requests have been submitted. According to their senior vice president of public policy, Jose Esparza, the planned data centers raise cost issues due to the rapid demand in demand growth and is considering new tariff options for these data center interconnections. Peak load for Arizona Public Service is expected to increase to 40% by 2031, with the assumption to spend about $2 billion annually on capital investments to manage the financial strain of rising utility costs. SOLARCYCLE plans for a new 5 GW #solar #panel recycling facility in Cedartown, Georgia, aiming to increase solar #sustainability. The facility is set to be operational by mid-2025, initially set to recycle 2 million solar panels annually. Additionally, the facility will be able to recover up to 99% of PV materials to be used in producing new solar glass at their adjacent solar glass factory. With investment from Microsoft and others, this facility aims to fill crucial gaps in the domestic solar supply chain and create over 1,250 jobs, increasing economic growth and environmental innovation. Las Vegas is now making impressive strides in sustainability. In the last two decades, the city has invested millions in green initiatives, including #solar #power, water conservation and waste management. These sustainability efforts began in 2005, and quickly accelerated with the aid of the Recovery Act in 2009. By 2030, 50% of all Nevada’s energy is projected to be produced from #renewable resources, MGM Resorts, one of the many resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, has embraced renewable energy by powering it’s properties with a 100-megawatt solar array. The Department of the Treasury has revealed that facilities producing ingots and wafers qualify for the 25% investment tax credit under the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. This move incentivizes domestic manufacturing of key #solarsupply components, hoping to fill the gaps in the supply chain. While there is an absence of U.S. commercial-scale and ingot manufacturing, 3.3 GW is under construction, with major companies planning to increase production. Solar sector leaders see this as a crucial step towards energy independence, job creation and a stronger economy. For more information, read here: https://ow.ly/CLKr50TUpTM

According to LBNL, hybrid power plants, particularly #solar-battery hybrids, are becoming increasingly popular amongst U.S. developers. By the end of 2023, these plants made up 55% of active utility-scale solar and 52% of active utility-scale #energystorage capacity on the interconnection queue. Hybridization is expected to continue, as solar’s generation patterns align with the peak electricity demand. For more details, read here: https://ow.ly/Gi8J50TPIWN
