Solstice Outreach's work with See Brilliance over the past six months has brought our portable planetarium shows to hundreds of students in Columbus, including multiple Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio. Last spring, Festa volunteers Caitlin O'Brien and Bella Roberts and Festa Staff member Jacob Griffith, all students at The Ohio State University, won a grant from the Ohio State President’s Buckeye Accelerator to start their own social enterprise business, Solstice Outreach. Solstice Outreach “makes the universe available to anyone, anytime, anywhere” through immersive and engaging portable planetarium shows, providing high-quality #STEM outreach to audiences of all ages. An important part of their mission is to bring STEM education to underserved communities. Caitlin herself was inspired to pursue a career in astronomy after visiting a planetarium as a child. For the past several months Caitlin, Bella and Jacob have worked hard to bring Solstice Outreach to life. This April they made their official “launch” with their first planetarium shows for the children at Festa! Children at our Hilliard and Dublin 3-Generation Family ESL programs got to tour the solar system and learn all about the planets and space. They were so excited to see the stars and planets come alive and had so many thoughtful questions. One child was excited to tell us that he wanted to be a heliophysicist and study the sun when he grows up! At Festa, we are 'dream catchers,' and we are proud to support Caitlin, Bella and Jacob in their dream to make Solstice Outreach a reality, and to inspire the amazing and talented children at Festa to dream big about their own futures!
