We had an incredible evening at the annual Connections 2 Independence SOLfood Dinner, celebrating and supporting youth transitioning out of foster care. Congratulations to both the Minneapolis Boys and Girls teams on their victories—Boys with a close 1-0 win and Girls with an impressive 3-0 score against St. Paul! ??? A huge shoutout to the St. Paul Boys and Girls teams as well, who showed incredible skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the games. Both matches were hard-fought, with St. Paul bringing energy and tenacity that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. These athletes truly exemplify what it means to be stars of their cities! ? The Stars of the Cities shone bright this weekend! ? This weekend at Conway Dome, we had the privilege of hosting the SOL of the Cities all-star games. The energy, skill, and teamwork on display were incredible; every player brought their A-game. ?????? Thank you to everyone who came out to support, cheer, and celebrate these rising stars. It was an amazing showcase of passion, sportsmanship, and community spirit. For the sixth and final time, we brought together amazing coaches, youth practitioners, leaders and thinkers to conclude the residentials of the Common Goal Play Proud programme ?????????? It’s been honour this year to work with North Carolina Courage, North Carolina Football Club, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Minnesota Aurora FC, Seattle Reign FC, Ballard FC, Salmon Bay FC, Atlanta United FC and our final hosts Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals. We were joined by SOL of the Cities Soccer in the Streets Washington Youth Soccer and America SCORES Seattle who are each doing vital work with young people across America. We learnt about how to build community, how to find our role in the movement, and how to lead in the moment - moments that seem even more crucial now. It would be remiss of me not to say that yes, the election was an underlying presence in the week, but I leave Utah feeing more inspired and more emboldened than ever that football has the power to change the world. This programme has been life affirming and life changing, and though we may have come to some sort of an end, it’s not the end of the work. I look forward to continuing to work with our great friends across Major League Soccer United Soccer League (USL) National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and all the community organisations across North America who wish to make the 2026 World Cup the most inclusive it can be.
