Youth sports can teach lifelong skills, but they aren’t accessible to all communities. SOL of the Cities is using team sports as a way to create future leaders of tomorrow. By putting community first, co-founders Sparkle Wimberly and Mario Wimberly have stepped away from the pay-to-play model to create a new avenue for youth to freely engage in the game of competitive futsal (a version of soccer) while finding opportunities to give back. With home opener now in the rear view mirror for us at MNUFC, I can proudly share what our experiential team got up to during what we call our “Countdown to kickoff”: Kit reveal - helped surprise fans with our mascot as they shopped for our new convergence kit MNUFC Boot Soccer - We ran an outdoor soccer tournament with some fresh snow right outside Allianz Stadium, including some incredible prizes courtesy of our partners Coors Light. Winter SOLstice - Supported our community partners TC Sol at a futsal tournament where many talented players from ages 8 and up competed for their respective trophies Watch Party - We opened the season at one of our pub program spots, Brit’s Pub, with our in-stadium announcer, a live DJ and plenty of giveaways to create a true game-day feel. Player appearance - We had a player out at Soul Bowl, mindfully choosing this local black-owned business, to meet some fans, sign some autographs, and discuss his love for food with the chefs behind the delicious dishes. Bangers Only Ball - To cap it all off, we threw a concert at First Ave Mainroom with two local artists, and 500+ fans of both musicians and the team. On top of all that, we had two players stop by during the show to say hello and meet some fans ahead of our season opener. While these were just some of the highlights from our busy two weeks in February, we now have our sights firmly set on the rest of events season! #MNUFC #MLS #Soccer #SportsBiz #Experientialmarketing

Our Soccer For Success participants wrapped up their winter season in the best way—competing in Sol of the Cities’ annual TC Winter SOLstice 3v3 futsal event in partnership with Minnesota United FC! With 25+ teams from across the Twin Cities, this event brought communities together through the game we all love. At Sol of the Cities, we are committed to making soccer/futsal fun, accessible, and community-driven.
