New high-throughput corn protoplast service! Protoplasts provide powerful insight into cellular functions at an unprecedented scale, including gene expression, gene editing, molecule testing, localization, knockdown, and many other analyses. Pictured is Ben Difani showing Susan Martino-Catt, PhD corn protoplasts using our high throughput cell imager. Our protoplast offering includes a high-throughput cell imaging system, allowing us to scale our experiments efficiently, delivering fast, high-quality data with a turnaround time of just days instead of months! We run assays in 96-well plates and have validated our corn protoplast platform with consistent protoplast yields, high protoplast viability, and high transfection efficiencies. Here are some of the assays we can now run with our corn protoplast platform: ?? Gene Expression Assays – Track gene activity using fluorescent or other reporters. ?? Transient Gene Expression – Analyze gene expression quickly with RT-qPCR. ?? Protein Localization Studies – Visualize where proteins are located within the cell. ?? Gene Knockdown Efficiencies – Test how effective amiRNAs are at silencing genes. ?? Small Molecule Testing – Screen for compounds that impact cellular processes. ?? Protein-Protein Interactions – Investigate how proteins interact within cells. ?? Testing New Genomic Tools – Assess the efficiency of recombination or other novel tools. ?? CRISPR-based Gene Editing Validation – Verify gene edits before moving to stable systems. Working with protoplasts can be challenging, but their potential to generate valuable, rapid proof-of-concept data is undeniable. After a highly productive team strategy meeting, we shifted gears and dived into some friendly competition with our very own Lab Olympics! ???? The team competed in some unique events like lab-tape bowling, a plant sampling race that tested both speed and precision, and a blindfolded pipetting relay.
