Is philanthropy failing Palestine, Israel, and the Middle East? The Alliance magazine 2024 readers questionnaire has been designed to gather opinions and impressions on philanthropy's response to the unfolding catastrophic situation in Palestine, Israel, and the wider region. Solidaire is proud to join the Election Day to Every Day campaign mobilizing funders to maintain resources for power-building organizations beyond election day. Regardless of the election’s outcome, we know that the work of building an inclusive, multi-racial democracy has a long arc. Anti-democracy forces don’t defund their infrastructure after every election cycle and we shouldn’t either. Our movement leaders need to know that you'll be supporting them in Q1 of next year and beyond. And they need help ensuring the safety, security, and wellbeing of their teams in an increasingly dangerous environment. The Election Day to Every Day campaign outlines 4 steps funders can take now. We know actions will look different for each of us. Some may make all of our financial commitments throughout the year, and others may streamline renewal processes. We will be challenging ourselves and sharing ideas with each other. You can join the call to action around these commitments by becoming a campaign signatory and by sending this message to others in your network. Learn more at https://buff.ly/4eqSXdL

ICYMI This wonderful interview with Sawyer Tracy speaks to the spiritual depth and long-term relationship building required to shift our embedded beliefs around money and wealth accumulation. One of our favorite quotes: "At some point there is a threshold moment for a person when they realize the place we are moving toward is much better than anything we leave behind. That what we know to be true – the joy, spaciousness, ease, connection of moving in alignment with the spirit of life is more powerful than all of the losses and all of the grief we might go through in resisting the world of wealth accumulation." Thank you, Sawyer and Michael Gast.
During my time as a member of Resource Generation, being part of a small committed group of young people with wealth, supporting and challenging each other to live and act on our values, meeting regularly over the course of months and years, was soooo important to being able to shift where and how the money in my control was used (whether it was being saved, invested or redistributed), how I felt about it, and how I showed up in cross-class relationships and projects. Small closed groups of peers, learning, sharing their stories and supporting each other to take action together, over the course of months and years, is such an important part of any recipe for radical transformation! Some call this 'circle work' and it is a time tested model for shifting hearts and minds. It’s not all that’s needed (the values and guiding principles of any group are, of course, quite important amongst other things), and I think it is an under-appreciated part of organizing anyone towards action. This lesson is one of the reasons why I loved interviewing Sawyer Tracy and learning about Wisdom & Money. Wisdom & Money is a spiritual community that helps people of wealth find greater inner and outer alignment of their money with their values. They are rooted in Christian spiritual tradition and liberation theology and have been doing this work for many years. They use the Be Present, Inc. Empowerment Model developed by Lillie P. Allen, MPH that I have heard great things about. Wisdom & Money is organized around small circles where people of wealth get a chance to share everything about their finances, all the numbers and all the questions, with a group of peers, grounded in the values of interdependence and the importance of money moving towards the collective good (rather than piling up in personal bank accounts). I love their model and want more opportunities for the wealthy people I know to have this type of life-long, peer support and community around their finances, redistribution and efforts to live their values. Want to read more? And learn from Sawyer Tracy and her work with Wisdom & Money? As our nation faces escalating political violence and repressive legislation, we are honored to share this collection of stories and wisdom from our Janisha R. Gabriel Movement Protection Fund (MPF) movement partners who are creating new models for collective safety and security. For this Nonprofit Quarterly article, Jas Wade interviewed our movement partners at Three Sisters Collective, West Virginia Can’t Wait, Miss Major Alexander L Lee TGIJP Black Trans Cultural Center (TGIJP), Muslims for Just Futures, and Southern Center for Human Rights. Our partners were generous with their wisdom, tactics, and optimism that, through investing in experimentation, solidarity, and grassroots organizing, we can defend our movements and create collective safety.? "We remain on the frontline to combat the dehumanization and criminalization of our communities. We are building an alternative world, and our safety lies in our relationships, solidarity, and care for one another." - Darakshan Raja, Muslims for Just Futures
