关于我们
Solid Ground Consulting is a Portland, Oregon based firm connected with organizations across the country by a common bond - making a difference in the communities we serve. It’s a desire we share with thousands of people in every corner of every community. And sometimes they need help. As organizational, strategy and leadership consultants, we’re on this planet to help others make a greater impact. By instilling greater confidence, by expanding their capability and by offering a clear pathway to achieve their goals. Within organizations, these are not small things – they often represent transformational changes that can make all the difference in the world. In permaculture, an edge ecosystem is a place where two ecosystems come together, creating an abundance of diversity and opportunity. Edge ecosystems are home to life that exists nowhere else in the world. Solid Ground and our Colorado-based consulting partners at Connected Realities, are excited to create our own edge. We will be merging our practices to create new connections, new abundance, and new solutions. Learn more about Connected Realities here: https://www.connectedrealities.com/

Great Pinery Heritage Water Trail In Wausau, WI, The Solid Ground and Connected Reality team is helping a community re-think what their river can mean to them.?Already a river with a world-class, competitive whitewater run, the river also boasts more than 100 miles of placid and nearly-wild recreational opportunities.?More than just a paddlers’ destination, community leaders envision a river corridor that includes hiking, biking, arts and culture, lodging and dining, and other extended visitor and local benefits.?The area also offers learning and engaging opportunities with the cultural heritage of Indigenous and settler communities.? ? Emerging from this and other projects completed by Solid Ground is a growing?database of best practices for community water trail and greenway projects.?Understanding the pathways taken by other successful community initiatives gives ideas and confidence to leaders seeking their own water trail opportunity. ? Growing the project will require growing the capacity of a community-based organization to be the water trail’s champion.?We’ve been helping them explore (along with other clients in Ohio and Oregon) how to?front-load organizational resources?to support a more robust major donor program down the road.?A capacity-building initiative is an innovative strategy to seek up-front investment from foundations and investment-minded individuals to pay for the fundraising staff that is required to sustain a high-level major donor and membership program.?Organizations with huge future potential can sometime spend years trying to build up the capacity to sustain capacity.?It can be a sisyphusian experience (that guy with the bolder and the mountain).? ? The capacity-building strategy can be a means to kick-start an organization to the next level.?Solid Ground has helped several groups envision, and then realize, that potential.

Solid Ground recently worked with the External Advisory Board of the Salazar Center for North American Conservation, a powerful extension of Colorado State University.?The organization plays a unique role as a “force multiplier” and thought partner with transboundary conservation efforts.?Their challenge was to empower their advisory board to be more than an advisory board – to help it step into important strategic and generative governance roles, despite having a limited fiduciary obligation as a program of the university.?This is a common challenge for groups – knowing how to share power and build authentic engagement from voices they value.?This just happens to be a specialty of Solid Ground Consulting. ? This diagram, used extensively in the conversation with the Salazar Center, reflects that board members have different levels of engagement depending on their roles and the expectations reflected in different types of boards.
