Solar Roadways? (SR) is a modular system of specially engineered solar panels that can be walked and driven upon. Our panels contain LED lights to create lines and signage without paint. They contain heating elements to prevent snow and ice accumulation. The panels have microprocessors, which makes them intelligent. This allows the panels to communicate with each other, a central control station, and vehicles. Many people are surprised to learn that our panels are made of glass… but not ordinary glass. SR panels are made of specifically formulated tempered glass, which can support the weight of semi-trucks. The glass has a tractioned surface which is equivalent to asphalt. You can read more technical information in the specifics page of our website. We’re still in an early phase of our company’s development. Eventually our panels will be available for highways, but first will come non-critical applications such as driveways and parking lots. We are readying to install the first projects now. We are currently in the last year of our third contract with the U.S. Department of Transportation. This contract funded much needed testing: Traction Testing, Load Testing, Impact Resistance Testing, Moisture Conditioning, Freeze/Thaw Cycling, Shear Testing, and Accelerated Load Testing. We’ll publish the results when the last test has been completed. We’ll be able to charge electric vehicles with clean energy from the sun, first on our solar parking lots and driveways. When we have enough highway infrastructure, SR will enable dynamic charging of Electric Vehicles so they can charge while driving. We are in collaboration with a company who makes the chargers, which can be placed into some of our panels. Solar Roadways can also facilitate the transition to Autonomous Vehicles by making them much safer. Every so often someone will ask us why we haven't installed any Roads yet. As most of you know, we've always believed that the smartest approach is for Roadways to be our LAST application. Thank goodness because we've had competitors in Europe and China who rushed straight to roads (with different technology) and quickly failed. First up for us will be plenty of Parking Lots, Driveways, Sidewalks etc. sprinkled throughout different states and then other countries. So do we expect to see Roads and even Highways as we illustrate in this graphic? Absolutely! There will be SO many benefits such as: Massive Clean Energy, Safety and Traffic Management features which the world has never seen, helps for both Electric and Autonomous Vehicles, no more Potholes, Modularity with easier and faster Maintenance and Cable Corridors as shown in the graphic providing a secure underground "home" for cables and wires. Last but definitely not least the whole system is a Decentralized system rather than Centralized like Coal Plants, Solar Farms, Nuclear Plants and so on. Whether Fossil Fuels or Renewables, Centralized Energy is easy to take out by those who want to harm America or any other nation. Solar Roadways will offer National Security benefits for all while protecting our shared ??. SR benefit?#14?is the ability to become the delivery system for dynamic EV charging. We don't plan to make the chargers, but we can make the technology practical for those who do. We've been working with one group and can work with more. One of the biggest concerns about Electric Vehicles is range anxiety. With Solar Roadways implemented on a grand scale, EVs could charge dynamically as they drive! No more searching for charging stations or waiting around while they charge. EV manufacturers might be able to use smaller batteries, reducing weight.
