With Microsoft as one of our first collaborators, this innovative program increases access to renewable energy funding various organizations across the country. We’re proud to award $75,000 from our Community Benefit fund to the Boston Community Solar Cooperative! This funding will help bring community-owned solar power to low-income and historically underserved neighborhoods. More solar panels, more clean energy, more power in the hands of the people! As BCSC puts it: “Those who own the power should have the power.” And we couldn’t agree more.

Our Community Benefit program takes RECs beyond business as usual. We’re collaborating with corporate buyers like Microsoft to sell RECs with extra funding that goes to community-driven solar projects in underserved areas. Our first round of beneficiary distributions is already making a difference: ?? Boston Medical Center - expanding solar panels & supporting low-income patients' energy bills ?? Boston Community Solar Cooperative - installing a community-owned solar array ?? Community Work Services - growing clean energy job training for underserved communities and formerly incarcerated returning citizens ? Worcester Community Energy Action & PUSH Buffalo - powering local solar initiatives This is more than just a transaction - it’s a reinvestment in communities that need it most. By ensuring RECs drive real impact, we’re proving that businesses can be a force for equity and sustainability. We’re just getting started. Who’s ready to join us?

In VC, exits are the name of the game. Every investment we make has to find an exit—ideally a BIG exit so we can drive outsized returns to our investors. But as a climate tech VC, how do we account for the impact outcomes that occur after we exit? Like Solstice ... which was acquired in 2022 by MyPower Corp. and is continuing to bring cheap renewable energy to underserved communities in the US (?? see their latest expansion). We LOVE Solstice, we love that our early support helped them grow their business and climate impact with a large global partner. How do we know the true impact of our investments unless we include how they grow post-exit? We are incredibly grateful for the partnership of Solstice and Microsoft and their support for Boston Medical Center (BMC)'s Clean Power Prescription. The support comes through Solstice's new Community Benefit Renewable Energy Credit program. The partnership will allow us to expand the number of BMC HEALTH SYSTEM patients who can receive electric bill credits via solar energy produced onsite at Boston Medical Center (BMC). Thank you!!
