Our financial statements release for the year 2024 has now been published! Our CEO Pasi Vainikka presented the operational highlights of the past year in a webcast, while our CFO Ilkka Saura gave a deeper review of the financials of Solar Foods. We also got an introduction from Rami Jokela, who will take over as the CEO of the company in the beginning of April. In the end of the presentation there was a possibility for Q&A. We are excited to share that Business Finland has granted us EUR 10 million funding related to the research, development and go-to-market of our groundbreaking protein Solein! The funding is related to Solar Foods' IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) notification approved by the European Commission. Business Finland’s funding decision for the first EUR 33.6 million tranche of the IPCEI grant was approved in December 2022 for the ramp-up of our Factory 01 and for entering the pre-engineering phase of Factory 02. Business Finland has now decided to increase the grant under the first funding decision by EUR 10 million based on the updated cost estimate for the project. "We are extremely pleased to receive this additional funding for research, product development and the pre-engineering phase of Factory 02. When realized, Factory 02 is a unique project in terms of science, technology and climate impact", says our CEO Pasi Vainikka. Did you know that Factory 01, our first commercial-scale production facility, is FSSC 22000 certified? The FSSC 22000 is a globally recognized food safety standard, highlighting both Factory 01's and the entire company's commitment to upholding the highest standards of food safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement, while embedding these values deeply into the company's culture. "The FSSC 22000 certification was a big milestone in our journey, as it confirms that the processes and practices established at Factory 01 meet the strict, globally recognised requirements for food safety", says our Chief Operating Officer Tiia Kuusim?ki. Our first production facility, Factory 01, started operations in April last year. However, that was only the beginning! We have now started the pre-engineering of our next production facility, Factory 02. The new facility will significantly expand our production capacity of Solein up to about a hundred times from Factory 01, with an annual planned capacity for Factory 02 of 12 800 tons. The final investment decision for Factory 02 is expected to be made in 2026, with operational deployment of the first phase aimed for 2028. “Factory 01 is a globally one-of-a-kind production facility which showcases that our technology scales. It is the first step in a much larger journey: Factory 02 will significantly scale up our production capacity, allowing us to answer the customer demand and to realise Solein’s full potential”, says Benoit Formesyn, our Project Director for Factory 02.
