What a year 2024 has been! SolarBuddy had our biggest year of impact since starting in 2016, and it’s all thanks to the incredible support from our partners, donors, and community. Let’s look at the powerful impact we created together—because every solar device, every effort, and every moment of support made a difference.

SolarBuddy is uniting a global community to illuminate the futures of all children by ending extreme energy poverty.
About us
SolarBuddy is an impact organisation uniting a global community to illuminate the futures of all children. Energy poverty plunges 1.4 billion people into complete darkness, every night as they lack equal access to clean energy. They depend on primitive forms of energy like charcoal and firewood to ignite their way through the night. These forms of energy have a devastating impact on their health, well-being, economic stability, educational outcomes and the environment. Our goal is to gift millions of solar lights to children living in energy poverty by 2030. The solar lights allow children to safely study after dusk and improve their educational outcomes. Our programs allow our community to transform lives through the gift of light while learning how innovative design solutions can help create a more sustainable world. Time is precious, and once it’s lost, it’s gone. Energy poverty controls women’s time every week. On average, they spend 40 hours a week gathering fuel and cooking. Time they could be spending to focus on their education, careers, family or health. In our latest article, explore how energy poverty impacts women’s lives and why energy access is essential for women’s rights, quality and empowerment. Energy access is a privilege, but it shouldn’t be. ?? https://bit.ly/43pozhd #ForAllWomenAndGirls #IWD2025 #GenderEquality #WomensEmpowerment #EnergyForAll

Last week our team got together to build solar powered LED lights with SolarBuddy, an organisation illuminating the futures of children by supplying solar lights to communities with limited access to a reliable electricity grid. ? LED lighting and solar are technologies that are integral to the clean energy transition in Australia, and that we work with every day at FG Advisory. It was important for our team to learn about how these technologies are being deployed around the world to fight energy poverty and improve health, safety and education in remote communities. ? Our team was moved by the opportunity to build and gift a light that will aid a child in studying and staying safe through their schooling career. We are very pleased to be able to supply these lights to SolarBuddy to continue their incredible work. You can support SolarBuddy here: Get Involved | SolarBuddy: https://lnkd.in/gvpJvcuK

Electricity is essential, yet 685 million people live without it. Energy poverty means having little to no access to clean, safe, reliable, and affordable electricity. Without electricity, studying after dark becomes impossible, medicine can't be safely stored, and earning a living is limited to daylight hours. These are just a few of the barriers that energy poverty creates to vital opportunities. We’re here to change that and we want you to join us ?? #EndEnergyPoverty #EnergyAccess #EnergyForAll #SDGs

In 2011, Bryan Walsh’s Time Magazine article, "The Worst Kind of Poverty: Energy Poverty," exposed an overlooked global crisis. Without access to clean energy, millions face barriers to education, health, and economic growth. The good news? We’re on a mission to change that ?? #EndEnergyPoverty #EnergyForAll #LeaveNoOneBehind #RenewableEnergy

Did you know… 1 JuniorBuddy impacts 5 people 1 StudentBuddy impacts 172 people While these are averages, as Nshokano shares, a single child's access to light can be shared by their neighbours ?? Nshokano shared his schooling experience and the challenges of energy poverty. His family fled civil unrest in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo when he was five, seeking refuge in Zambia for eight years before resettling in Australia as humanitarian refugees. #EnergyForAll #EnergyAccess #CleanEnergyFuture #CollectiveAction
