The U.S. solar panel manufacturing industry is growing, but domestic production is still falling short of demand. While the country has the potential to produce nearly 50 GW of solar panels annually, the expected installation rate for 2024 is 40 GW, meaning U.S. production should meet demand. However, data shows that American assemblers aren't reaching full capacity, and the U.S. is importing more finished solar panels than needed for a year. https://lnkd.in/gERMJ4SQ #SolarIndustry #USManufacturing #SolarPanels #SolarPower #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #SolarImports #USTrade

President Donald Trump has reintroduced a 25% trade tariff on aluminum and steel imports from most countries, which impacts materials used in solar construction, such as aluminum frames, rails, and steel racking. This tariff builds upon the 2018 Section 232 tariffs on steel (25%) and aluminum (10%) and now applies to all countries, with no exemptions. The U.S. is open to negotiating tariff adjustments with countries considered to have a "security relationship" with the U.S., with the import of these metals being labeled a "national security threat." https://lnkd.in/erbqiGq6 #TradeTariffs #SteelTariffs #AluminumTariffs #SolarConstruction #USTradePolicy #SolarIndustry #Section232 #ImportTariffs

The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has made a preliminary affirmative determination in its antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) investigations into active anode material (AAM) from China. In December 2024, the American Active Anode Material Producers (AAAMP) filed petitions with the Department of Commerce and U.S. ITC, requesting investigations into AAM used in lithium-ion batteries for energy storage and electric vehicles. AAAMP argued that China's dominance in AAM production has hindered the development of competitive domestic operations. https://lnkd.in/gjj4RZQy #USITC #ActiveAnodeMaterial #EnergyStorage #EVBatteries #TradeInvestigation #ChinaTrade

Mexico and the U.S. reached an agreement to delay tariffs for a month, while tariffs against Canada and China are still set to begin on February 4. Canada also negotiated a 30-day tariff pause with the U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, and a 10% additional tariff on imports from China, effective February 4. Energy resources from Canada will face a lower 10% tariff, likely limited to oil and gas imports. A full list of tariffed products is expected in a follow-up notice. https://lnkd.in/g-qE4Ngb #TradeAgreements #CanadaUSDeal #TrumpTariffs #EnergyTariffs #InternationalTrade #EconomicPolicy

On January 8, 2025, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the IRS released final rules and guidance for the Section 48E(h) Clean Electricity Low-Income Communities Bonus Credit Program. This program expands on the original 48(e) bonus credit, aiming to reduce energy costs and promote clean energy investments in low-income communities, affordable housing, and on Indian Lands. In its first year, the 48(e) program received over 54,000 applications, resulting in an expected $3.5 billion investment and $270 million in annual energy cost offsets. The second year saw a slight increase to over 57,000 applications, with nearly 1.9 GW of clean energy generation planned. This is projected to generate around $4 billion in investments and nearly $350 million in annual energy cost savings. https://lnkd.in/g9ujY4Ui #CleanEnergy #EnergySavings #RenewableEnergy #TaxIncentives #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalJustice

SolarEdge Technologies has begun shipping its new SolarEdge Home Battery “USA Edition,” completing its lineup of domestically manufactured solar and storage products. These products are designed to meet the domestic content bonus credit requirements outlined by the U.S. Department of Treasury and the IRS. The announcement follows SolarEdge's previously established manufacturing partnerships in Austin, Texas, and Seminole, Florida. The SolarEdge Home Battery USA Edition complements the company’s U.S.-made inverters and power optimizers, enabling TPOs, PPAs, lease providers, and commercial system owners to maximize domestic content incentives for their solar + storage systems. With a storage capacity of 9.7 kWh, the battery is powered by SolarEdge ONE, the company’s advanced energy optimization system, which enhances energy savings by optimizing solar export during peak rate periods. https://lnkd.in/eunddPs9 #EnergyStorage #RenewableEnergy #SolarEdge #CleanEnergy #EnergyOptimization #SustainableSolutions #SolarBattery

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the nation’s largest organization of state legislators committed to free markets and federalism, unanimously approved “The Resolution in Support of Farming and Energy Production” last week at the States & Nation Policy Summit in Washington, D.C. Sponsored by Colorado Republican Weld County Commissioner Lori Saine, the resolution advocates for allowing community solar and agrivoltaic projects on farmland. This initiative aims to expand consumer energy choices, support family farms, and boost domestic energy production through community solar. “American farmers and ranchers should have the freedom to decide how they generate energy on their land,” said Commissioner Lori Saine. “Small-scale community solar and agrivoltaic projects hold significant potential for our nation’s energy future, offering farmers new opportunities while preserving agricultural productivity. In Colorado, we’ve seen how these projects help sustain our farming communities, and I encourage conservatives in other states to adopt similar measures.” https://lnkd.in/envQwe7x #CommunitySolar #Agrivoltaics #EnergyIndependence #SustainableAgriculture #FamilyFarms #RenewableEnergy

PV Hardware USA (PVH) has introduced Diffuse Control, an advanced solar tracker algorithm designed to boost solar plant energy generation during overcast conditions by up to 20% compared to traditional trackers. Unlike conventional sun-tracking methods that rely solely on solar geometry, Diffuse Control uses real-time weather data to optimize panel tilt for capturing diffuse light. The algorithm also reduces motor energy consumption during operation, enhancing overall efficiency and productivity in cloudy weather. https://lnkd.in/g7dW5imp #SolarTechnology #SolarTrackers #RenewableEnergy #SolarEfficiency #EnergyOptimization #SmartSolar #SolarAlgorithm
