  • For our 8th GBM of the quarter, SOHIL hosted a LinkedIn and Professional Skills workshop with Professor Michel Estefan. In this insightful session, he discussed the power of "weak ties" in advancing careers, emphasizing the importance of networking, understanding social capital, and aligning with company cultures. Students gained valuable insights into building meaningful connections and navigating the job market with integrity and strategic communication. The speaker highlighted the significance of developing "weak ties"—connections with individuals outside one's immediate circle—as a key strategy for career growth. These relationships provide access to networks, resources, and opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable, particularly in competitive job markets. Networking, understanding social capital, and adapting one’s communication to align with a company’s culture were underscored as essential components of success. Additionally, the discussion explored how mentorship programs, even when not perfectly matched, can still offer valuable perspectives on career advancement and overcoming biases. Michel Estefan stressed the importance of maintaining integrity and clear communication while staying true to one's values when leveraging these connections. A heartfelt thank you to Professor Estefan for sharing his expertise and valuable insights with us!
