New footage reveals China’s latest amphibious barge system—a jack-up-supported pier designed for military landings, showcased in a recent exercise near Zhanjiang. China’s new 'invasion barges' can quickly transfer tanks and vehicles from ships, boosting PLAN’s amphibious capabilities for potential Taiwan or South China Sea operations. Satellite imagery from Guangzhou Shipyard confirms the construction of specialized barges for PLAN amphibious operations, with reports estimating between three and seven in progress. Tom Shugart, senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security, claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that three jack-up barges previously under construction have now departed. Army Recognition reports China’s invasion barges could support amphibious vessels, ensuring a steady supply chain during an invasion without relying on a defended port. US Releases First Video of Secretive ‘Flying Ginsu’ Missile in Action The U.S. has released footage of the AGM-114R9X Hellfire missile, known as the 'Flying Ginsu.' The strike, from February 23, targeted and killed Al-Qaeda leader Muhammed Yusuf Ziya Talay in Syria. The AGM-114R9X Hellfire missile differs from traditional ones by using six sword-like blades instead of an explosive warhead, enabling precise targeting with minimal collateral damage. The video shows a vehicle in Idlib being hit by the AGM-114R9X, with a cruciform glow at impact. Fragments confirmed it was the R9X model. General Kurilla said the CENTCOM strike is part of efforts to disrupt terrorism and protect the U.S. and allies, adding, "We will relentlessly pursue these terrorists to defend our homeland and partners." Hurras al-Din, founded in 2018 and designated a terrorist group by the U.S. in 2019, announced last month it would dissolve per al-Qaeda's orders. U.S. officials say remnants still pose a significant threat. The U.S. recently targeted Hurras al-Din with airstrikes, including one on February 15 that killed a senior official and another on January 30 that killed Muhammad Salah al-Za’bir. 350 drones were detected over 100 U.S. military bases in 2024, possibly for surveillance, General Gregory M. Guillot revealed in a Senate hearing. Drone activity was reported in New Jersey and key bases like Joint Base Langley and Wright-Patterson AFB. General Guillot warned of potential surveillance on sensitive military sites. Guillot called for expanded authority to counter drones, advocating for the extension of Section 130i to cover all military installations, not just the current ones. Guillot highlighted that only half of the 360 U.S. bases are 'covered installations' with authority to deploy defenses against drone incursions. Guillot called for wider defense perimeters to counter drones outside base boundaries. Senator Cotton stressed the need for base commanders to have the authority to protect installations. Guillot and Senator Gillibrand push for expanded authorities to protect bases. Drone incursions also hit U.S. Air Force bases in the UK, prompting joint countermeasures.
