?? The convenience of Uber and real estate applications rely on Geographic Information System (GIS) to function. And as GIS Day celebrates 25 years, we thought we’d share a technology origin story. Charles Picquet was the first to create a heat map ??? of cholera across 48 districts in Paris in 1832. But it was an outbreak in London in 1854 where John Snow gained insights from his heat map that allowed the source of the outbreak to be identified and an impact made through the closure of a contaminated well. ?? It’s America Recycles ?? Day and we’ve got some exciting STEM news for the O.G. of recycling – water ??! A study published in the journal “Nature Communications” introduced an electrochemical method capable of capturing, concentrating, and destroying diverse PFAS chemicals in water. The research was from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The next step is to scale it for widespread implementation. ???? #AmericaRecyclesDay #STEMNews #SustainableTech
