In our latest blog, we take an in-depth look at data assimilation, a technique that empowers us to deliver the most accurate real-time marine weather intelligence. Each day, we use data assimilation to incorporate the observations made by our global network of real-time ocean sensors into our forecasts. By assimilating these observations, along with satellite measurements and publicly-available data, we shift our forecasts closer to ground truth. Sofar collaborator Online Oceans has secured a $1.3M research contract from the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA)��s Forecasting Tipping Points program for our joint project "Connecting Subsea to Satellites!" ????? Online Oceans and Sofar Ocean will deliver a long endurance platform capable of connecting subsurface sensors with satellites, all for a fraction of the cost of existing solutions. We will make use of Online Oceans�� Solar Scout autonomous surface robot and Bristlemouth, an open connectivity standard for marine applications developed by Sofar and strategic partners. Representatives from the US Navy's Fleet Weather Center - Norfolk (FWC-N) joined Sofar at Pier 28 for a technical exchange focused on FWC-N��s successful ongoing pilot of our Wayfinder voyage optimization platform! ?? Routing experts from FWC-N and Sofar discussed how Wayfinder supports the safe and efficient navigation of Military Sealift Command (MSC) vessels. The Wayfinder pilot program results highlighted the differentiating value created by Wayfinder��s highly accurate marine weather intelligence and showcased the impressive fuel savings achieved by MSC vessels following the platform��s guidance. The collaboration between FWC-N and Sofar is made possible by Sofar��s CRADA with the U.S. Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command. #SofarOcean
