Thank you to the Quileute Tribe for hosting the Backyard Buoys All Hands conference in La Push, WA! The Backyard Buoys program partners with Indigenous and coastal communities around the world to deploy the Spotter Platform, enabling these remote communities to leverage real-time ocean data. "The event showed me firsthand how valuable Spotter wave data has been for local communities," said Jarrah Orphin, Account Executive at Sofar. In our latest blog, we take an in-depth look at data assimilation, a technique that empowers us to deliver the most accurate real-time marine weather intelligence. Each day, we use data assimilation to incorporate the observations made by our global network of real-time ocean sensors into our forecasts. By assimilating these observations, along with satellite measurements and publicly-available data, we shift our forecasts closer to ground truth. Sofar collaborator Online Oceans has secured a $1.3M research contract from the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA)’s Forecasting Tipping Points program for our joint project "Connecting Subsea to Satellites!" ????? Online Oceans and Sofar Ocean will deliver a long endurance platform capable of connecting subsurface sensors with satellites, all for a fraction of the cost of existing solutions. We will make use of Online Oceans’ Solar Scout autonomous surface robot and Bristlemouth, an open connectivity standard for marine applications developed by Sofar and strategic partners.
