Spreading awareness among individual households on how to segregate waste at source can contribute to improved waste management at a household level, cumulatively decreasing the quantum of waste that ends up in landfills. Here's how our partners Reap Benefit and Solid Waste Management Roundtable ( SWMRT) are adopting unique models of household awareness and training, that are encouraging communities to be an integral part of climate action. Pitapat island became a mangrove plantation site with initiative from Nature's Club through the ECRICC Project and with cooperation of the local villagers. An ideal land of 200 Ha. close to the village Pitapat of Ramnagar GP was tried several times for Mangrove Plantation to save it from the pollutant gas and dust of the IFFCO and AMNS companies standing just on the opposite side of the river But the villagers couldn't find the right way to achieve the goal. After the implementation of ECRICC, villagers presented the problems in project meeting and a resolution was made regarding this matter. The project staff met the Forest Department officials. A special program was organized during Van Mahotsav to invite the department to the village and a physical verification of the land was done with cooperation of our climate champions. After proper documentation mangrove plantation has started on the vacant patch. Today 16000 saplings and hypocotyls were planted under the direct supervision of the Forest Range officials. This is a big achievement as far as Nature's Club is concerned and the credit goes to the villagers and our Climate Champions. Thanks to the Socratus Foundation for Collective Wisdom for widening the horizon of Climate Champions. Devjit Mittra madhusmit pati

I am normally not a person who gushes about something I am about to do, but the Multispecies studio is one such occasion. The studio started with the imagination that our cities are not just for human-beings - we share these spaces with many other species, and our imagination of their future must include other species. Are you a designer, wanting to deepen your knowledge of ecology? Are you an ecologist who's always wanted to dabble in design but didn't know where to start? Do you want to imagine cities as spaces for other species besides human beings? Or maybe you're just interested in the philosophy of it all. The Shaktiville Multispecies studio might be just the space you've been waiting for. Want to learn more? Check out the link below. The registration form for the studio is in the first comment. ???? Digital technology and social media are transforming every corner of India, shaping our lifestyle choices, opinions and aspirations. As smartphones reach even the smallest villages, rural communities have begun to create content as well as consume it, sharing their rich culture, daily lives, and innovative agricultural practices with the world. ???? This August, starting today, we are hosting a series of interactive webinars on "Utilizing Digital Media for Agroecology" on 8th, 10th, and 13th August from 12:00 – 1:10 PM. These sessions, supported by GIZ India and in collaboration with National Coalition for Natural Farming, Asar, and Aline Partners, aim to empower rural youth, farmers, and grassroots workers to promote natural farming through social media. ?????? We’re excited to feature Lakshay Dabas, an organic farmer and founder of Organic Acre, whose YouTube channel boasts over 680K followers. Over three sessions, Lakshay will share expert tips on content strategy, storytelling, video shooting, and editing. Together, we can harness digital tools and build connections for a greener future! It is increasingly being recognised that we need more storytelling and art-based approaches to mainstream the discourse on climate and nature, for creating accessible entry points around the framing of and responses to the poly-crisis facing us. Resilience as an idea has evolved over the years - originating from engineering and gradually making its way into other fields. In the urban context, it has the potential to play the role of a bridge - both as a concept and as a metaphor. (whether to link ecology with urban planning, or to connect climate adaptation and mitigation) At Socratus, our work in Bangalore so far has looked at the strengthening participatory governance at the ward level. The need for building resilience against increasing vulnerabilities casued by extreme weather events, heat-stress and flooding (sometimes all happening within the same month) has been emerging as a key insight and an action point (can't miss a shout out to peers doing some wonderful work on this already!). In this context, we are thrilled, grateful and excited to have this support from the Global Resilience Partnership to unpack urban resilience and what it means for people of Bangalore. How are we planning to do this? By using the 'Climate Recipes' approach developed and pioneered by Srinivas Mangipudi & Srinivas Aditya Mopidevi (look up their work on food systems using the climate recipes approach) supported by Diya Shah, Bhargavi Nagendra & Srinidhi Gurunath for this Bangalore edition. If you or someone you know is working on building Bangalore's resilience, please connect/reach out as we would love to talk! ?? On July 1st, the second day of Mangrove Patho Utsav at Odisha State Museum in Bhubaneswar brought together local voices and experts to tackle challenges in mangrove ecosystems in a? Citizen Jury format. ?? After an orientation of the jury process and a walkthrough of the Climate Recipes exhibition, sixteen diverse villagers from Bhitarkanika and Mahanadi mouth areas, along with experts and officials, discussed the ecological and socio-economic importance of mangrove ecosystems. ?? Key proposals from the experts included forming clusters for the Mangrove Mitra program, strategies for human-wildlife coexistence, reviving local knowledge on crocodile behaviour, sustainable harvesting of naliya grass, and renewable energy-based entrepreneurship. ?? Action points from the jury included reviving Eco-Development Committees, developing alternative livelihoods during restricted park entry, and improving community awareness of crocodile behaviours. ?? These insights will guide our partner, Nature’s Club's (https://lnkd.in/gqji5Zh8) work in the region, and enhance conservation efforts across Odisha’s coastal landscapes. #MangrovePathoUtsav #Conservation #CommunityDriven #Odisha #Mangroves Rainmatter Foundation || Water, Environment, Land and Livelihoods (WELL) Labs || SELCO Foundation || Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) || Bakul Foundation || Goonj || Sameer Shisodia BHUMI SATHI I ACT sadhwi sindura Yashendu Joshi Mamta Misra Aviraj Datta Gautam Kumar Pradhan Satyapriya Sahu Shivangi Behera Rajesh Kasturirangan Devjit Mittra Srinivas Mangipudi Nithin Vemula Saumya Jain Adrija Chaudhuri Dyuti Garg Jasmine Giri Jayprakash Nayak Bishal Mohanty Smriti T.
