Dallas SWE participated in the Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation College Festival in October! Launched this year, the festival invites High school students to the Success Center to learn about college, interact with local college representatives, learn tips for applying, and shows them how different college majors lead to real careers. Dallas SWE led two activities that showed how majoring in biomedical engineering and biology can lead to careers in the engineering and health profession fields. Students viewed a heart valve demo, played operation, and viewed specimens under a microscope to explore surgical, research, product engineer, and cardiac research careers. Dallas SWE’s partnership with VMYDF was established in 2023. Join Dallas SWE and SWE PepsiCo for Outreach at the Boys & Girls Club McKinney! Sign-up to volunteer to help students complete a hands-on STEM activity designed and led by PepsiCo. Event Recap: Ask-A-Manager, Collins Aerospace Edition – September 2024 Dallas SWE kicked off the new fiscal year with an insightful Ask-A-Manager panel event featuring three accomplished leaders from Collins Aerospace: Jamese Hamilton, Nichole McCown, MBA, and Shauna Pierce. Hosted on September 19th at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in Plano, this interactive session provided attendees with the opportunity to ask questions and learn from seasoned managers about team leadership, growth, and navigating management challenges. The panelists shared their thoughts on what it takes to successfully manage a team, emphasizing the importance of emotional intelligence, communication, and active listening. Dallas SWE would like to extend a big thank you to the panelists for sharing their time and insights. It was a rewarding evening full of valuable takeaways for both current and aspiring leaders.
