?? Giving Tuesday is December 3rd, Your Generosity Can Go Twice as Far! ?? Please keep the SVC Foundation in mind with your year-end donations to support our Academic and Industry Scholarships. This year, every donation made to the SVC Foundation can be ?????????????? thanks to the generosity of Kathe and Gary Vergason, who are helping endow a scholarship to honor Michael Andreasen, who passed away earlier this year. With your support, we can continue to drive meaningful change in the vacuum coating industry by providing for the next generation of practitioners. Your contribution — no matter the size — will help us provide scholarships and training to students and early-career industry employees. ?? Here is how it works: 1. ???????????? on our website:?https://lnkd.in/epFE8-w or mail to the SVC Foundation, PO Box 10628, Albuquerque, NM 87184. 2. Select your favorite Fund. If you want every dollar of your donation matched, please select the “Kathe & Gary Vergason Endowed Scholarship Honoring Michael Andreasen” — doubling the impact of your generosity! Whether you have supported us in the past or are giving for the first time, your gift today will make a world of difference. Together, we can ensure the future of the vacuum coating industry and the great students that will significantly impact our lives. ?? https://lnkd.in/epFE8-w Thank you for being a part of this special day of giving! Your generosity helps create a brighter, better future for all. ??? #GivingTuesday #MatchYourGift #DoubleTheImpact #Philanthropy #MakeADifference #GivingBack #SVC #Scholarships?

Apply now for Society of Vacuum Coaters Foundation (SVCF) scholarships, including the Clark and Karen Bright Endowed Scholarship Honoring Angus Macleod. Clark Bright and Karen Bright have a strong commitment to the education of students pursuing science and engineering degrees.?This endowed scholarship was created?in honor of a great friend to them and the SVC, Angus Macleod, who passed away in 2021.??This scholarship endowment will provide $2,500 annually for students working with?Optical Thin Films?and/or?Transparent Conductive Thin Films, whether in the design, deposition and processing, thin film characterization, general study of these thin films or use in applications where a key or enabling feature is provided. Both Clark and Angus had extensive careers in industry and encouraged early career individuals working in industry to attend the Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC) Techcon.?Thus, this scholarship is a natural extension of their on-going promotion of the SVC and the further education of those studying in similar fields. #Scholarship, #OpticalThinFilms, #TCO, #conductiveoxides, #TransparentConductiveThinFilms, #thinfilms, #vacuumcoatings, Thanh Tran, Michigan State University, Anton Zubayer, Link?ping University

From 4 to 9 May I had the opportunity to participate in the 67th Annual SVC Technical Conference (TechCon) Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC) in Chicago thanks to the scholarship I received from the Society of Vacuum Coaters Foundation (SVCF). I would like to thank them for giving me the opportunity to show my work to a community full of experts in the field and to be able to share experiences and learn from them. Apart from the technical presentations, this conference gives us the opportunity to interact and create a community thanks to all the events that are organised. - I was able to learn and discuss in the breaksfast forum. - Run in the 5k race and enjoy the sport together with my colleagues. - Networking at the coffee breaks and dinners. - Getting to know the other young people in the SVC thanks to the new youth committee. - See what's new in the industry at the exhibition? - And, of course, to meet up with friends and spend some time with them! In summary, this conference has given me the opportunity to learn and show what I'm working on, but it also gives us much more and allows us to form a community where we can learn and move forward. Thanks to all of you who made it possible for me to be there and I hope we can meet again in future editions! Universidad Pública de Navarra UPNA ETSIIIT

Congratulations to Julien Decker, the latest recipient of a J.A. Woollam Company Scholarship through the Society of Vacuum Coaters Foundation (SVCF). Julien is pursuing a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas Texas. Julien says, “My interest in vacuum coating technology comes from the fantastic capabilities of the technology that I have seen in my studies and the research being performed at my university. In the research I am performing with my university regarding tribological coatings for engines utilizing low-viscosity fuels, I have used a physical vapor deposition chamber to deposit thin films of copper and molybdenum many times to create sample testbeds. I hope to continue researching the applications of thin films wherever applicable. I wish to continue researching the technology and play my part in advancing it for future generations to come. Therefore, I wish to continue my studies past a bachelor’s and pursue a master’s and doctorate in materials science, specializing in the research of thin films and their deposition methods.” Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC), #vacuumcoating, #scholarships, #PVD, #tribology, #materialscience, #thinfilms, #deposition

Congratulations to Natalia ?ukaszkiewicz - a 2024 recipient of an Society of Vacuum Coaters Foundation (SVCF) Academic Scholarship. Natalia just finished her B.S. in Materials Engineering at Poznan University of Technology and will continue her studies at the graduate level at AGH University of Krakow. Natalia writes, “I played the role of the president of the Materials Science Club, where I could learn how to be a good leader. Science Club helped me start my journey into the scientific world, as I could join scientists in our university’s Materials Engineering Institute in their research work. For now, this has resulted in one published paper and another one under review, both focused on the topic of nanomaterials.” She continues, “I can’t wait to learn more in my field, especially nanomaterials, as I believe they hold great potential to contribute to the developments of future devices in a more sustainable way, thanks to the number of properties that can be designed in those materials, and numerous applications that result from that.” Congratulations Natalia!
