A study co-authored by an #SOTMember found that chewing gum with xylitol may be linked to a 24% reduction in preterm births and a 30% drop in low-birthweight babies. Study details: - The study in Malawi followed over 10,000 participants in two randomly selected groups over three years: 4,549 received the xylitol chewing gum intervention, while 5,520 in the control group received traditional counseling and medication. - In eight health centers across Malawi, trial participants began chewing xylitol gum early in pregnancy and continued until giving birth. #SOTMember co-author of this study: - #SOTFullMember Kjersti Aagaard of Baylor College of Medicine Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e399iAiM
