All of us at the SMA were saddened to learn that former SMA President, Klaus C.J. Mordhorst, died on Saturday, February 8, 2025, in Philadelphia.?His obituary may be found at the below link.?Klaus joined the SMA in 1974 and served as President from 2005-2009.?Klaus was respected by all and will be missed.?The family is planning a service this spring. On February 11th, SMA Secretary George Tsimis attended the NYC Bar Association's Admiralty Committee meeting in midtown Manhattan where guest speaker Yaakov Adler, a partner of Freehill Hogan & Mahar, provided a thorough presentation regarding?non-signatory participation in arbitration and recent decisions on this subject.??SMA Member Charles?Anderson will be speaking at the next NYC Bar Admiralty Committee meeting scheduled to take place on March 11, 2025 at the NYC Bar Association.?His presentation will address conservation efforts?regarding the ocean liner S.S. UNITED STATES.?He will also be publishing?an article on this topic for the next issue of the SMA's e-publication?The Arbitrator?which?is going to be released later this month. SMA President Lambert attended the 3rd?Annual Tulane Law School Offshore Wind Conference at the Port of New Orleans on 31 January 2025.?The conference was especially timely given the change in administrations.?Stakeholders—including supporters of the Trump administration—are mobilizing and making their case during the review period about the economic benefits to the US from continuing the development of offshore wind for a wide swath of US industries and communities, including shipbuilders, repairers, and seafarers.
