The SMM Student Members-at-Large (SMaLs) are thrilled to host the biennial Student Night tonight from 6:30 to 9 pm at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. This is an opportunity for students to socialize and network with professionals and other early career researchers. The event will involve both structured “speed-socializing” with students and mentors (professionals from across the field of marine mammal science, including professors, veterinarians, government scientists, and non-profit directors, among others) and time for unstructured, one-on-one conversations. Free vegan and vegetarian food options will be provided, and a cash bar will also be available! The Science on a Shoestring Award highlights researchers for their creative, high impact research that is achieved on a low budget. Our 2024 winners are Wint Hte, Vu Long, Cedrick Fogwan, Federico Secunzu, Nester Brix and Carlos Yaipen-LLanos. As well presenting their individual research at the conference, our Science on a Shoestring Award winners will participate in a panel discussion today 7:30 to 8:30 pm in the PCEC Riverside Theatre.
