DOES BEAUTY MATTER? Pastor Russ Ramsey, author of?Rembrandt is in the Wind, challenges us: “Goodness and truth are often taken seriously, while beauty is seen as a mere pastime, hobby, or even an obstacle to efficient, important work. Beauty cares very little whether the trains run on time.” ? In today’s culture, the tyranny of the urgent often seeps into our schools. Crammed schedules and performance-driven paradigms begin to rule our days. Fear and the status quo push out space for measured risk and creative thinking. Are we living the good life? ? Amidst all of this, beauty often feels impractical. Even as classical educators, committed to ideals that go against the grain of fear and busyness, it can be difficult to prioritize beauty for our schools, classrooms, students, families, and ourselves. Its lack of immediate practicality might make us think we don’t need a retreat focused on prioritizing beauty. ? But that’s exactly why we do. In a world filled with endless demands on our time, beauty must be given the priority it deserves—because it’s not just something nice to have; it’s essential to how we live and lead. ? So I encourage you to pause your efficient, important work for just 2.5 days. ? Join us October 24-26 in Dallas, TX for our Fall Retreat! We’ll take time to prioritize beauty and explore practical ways to incorporate it more meaningfully into our schools. What does it mean to lead a school with a culture of beauty? What does it look like to teach in a way that brings beauty to the classroom? ? Bring your faculty and leadership teams. (Arrive Thursday evening and only miss one day of school.) ? This year’s speakers are especially passionate about their subject, promising to inspire and challenge us as we reflect on the role of beauty in education. And of course, you’ll have time to see friends, make new connections, and share ideas with peers. ? We look forward to seeing you?there! https://lnkd.in/ejZVBh-f

The SCL Fall Retreat is fast approaching! This year is the first time we've added content specifically for teachers, so we invite everyone from your school no matter your role to join us for a time of fellowship and growth, both personally and professionally. See you there!
"Before any of the great books, before even grammar, is a great book of wonder written on the heavens, earth, and sea. Unless the heart, mind, and soul of a child are awakened by the sight of stars, the beauty of a sunset, or the wonder of nature, all formal teaching will fail." - John Senior Join us at the 2024 SCL Fall Retreat at The Covenant School of Dallas next month. We are thankful for The Covenant School, one of our new Thriving School Partners, who will host our fall retreat for the next three years! In addition to our leaders track, this year we have added one for teachers. Our theme will be the examining the place of the arts in classical Christian education. We have an excellent lineup, so bring your team and a few teachers. We will enjoy great conversation, fellowship, and of course, we will provide warm SCL hospitality to all of our guests. Register soon before we sell out. Look forward to seeing you there! https://lnkd.in/eDuBRKRh
