On Wednesday, December 11th, Society's Assets is hosting NAMI Wisconsin's Smarts for Advocacy training. American Sign Language (ASL) will be provided along with Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART). Registration Link in the comments section.

Society’s Assets has officially transitioned from our Kenosha and Elkhorn offices, consolidating operations in the Racine office. While this is a big step for us, we want to assure you of our commitment to provide person-centered services for individuals with disabilities. We are the Center for Independent Living in southeastern Wisconsin (including the counties of Kenosha, Racine, Walworth, Rock, and Jefferson). Our mission continues to guide us as we move forward. Here’s how we are continuing our work as a resource for people with disabilities. Understanding and Addressing Local Needs: We will keep working closely with local leaders and residents to ensure we are addressing the most important challenges and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. That could include meeting with our consumers in new, convenient and accessible locations. Increasing Awareness and Access: We will continue to raise awareness about the resources available to our community, ensuring that residents can access the services and support they need with presentations to community groups and exhibits at events. November is National Family Caregivers Month and if you’ve ever been the primary caregiver for a child, parent, spouse or another relative or friend, you already know why National Family Caregivers Month is so important. About 66 million aging Americans need care, and who better to provide it than a loving family member? Here at Society's Assets, we bring our quality care services to the local communities in the counties of Kenosha, Jefferson, Racine, Rock, and Walworth. Through our Self-Direct Personal Assistance Program, the consumer's family member, roommate, neighbor, or friend is paid to care for them. The consumer chooses caregivers and the plan of care is created with the consumer’s input. Caregivers do not need to be licensed. Volunteers Needed for Dollars for Scholars Wine and Beer Tasting Fundraiser - This Annual Event Raises Scholarships for Students with Disabilities. RACINE, WI – Society’s Assets is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to join the Dollars for Scholars Committee to help organize the 2025 Wine and Beer Tasting event. This event will take place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Civil War Museum in Kenosha. Funds raised during the event will support scholarships for students with disabilities pursuing post-high school education. Volunteers are crucial to the success of the Dollars for Scholars Wine and Beer Tasting event, and Society’s Assets invites individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with disabilities to join the planning committee. Volunteer Opportunities and Responsibilities: *Committee members will meet once a month, from January 2025 to June 2025, for 1-hour planning sessions to work on the following tasks: *Sponsorship Solicitation: Reach out to local businesses, corporations, and individuals to secure sponsorships for the event. *Auction/Raffle Item Procurement: Help solicit donations of products, gift cards, and services to be auctioned or raffled during the event. *Ticket Sales: Promote and sell tickets for the event to the community. *Volunteer Recruitment: Assist with recruiting additional volunteers and assigning tasks for the day-of-event operations. *Event-Day Operations: Volunteers will have assigned roles such as managing guest registration, assisting with auctions and raffles, handling logistics, and ensuring a smooth event experience between 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm on the day of the event. Optional Tasks: *Committee members can choose to focus on specific areas based on their interests and availability. It is not necessary to take on all the tasks listed above. Event Day Information: *Volunteers on event day will help in a variety of roles, ensuring the event runs smoothly and successfully. Specific tasks will be assigned, and volunteers will be expected to be available between 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm on June 18, 2025. Volunteer Requirements: *Energetic and motivated individuals who are passionate about supporting students with disabilities. *Ability to attend monthly planning meetings and contribute to event fundraising efforts. *Commitment to making a positive impact in the community. Election Day is here and below is a copy of a few last-minute reminders. 1. Don't forget your photo ID! 2. If you have a problem at the polls, first ask to talk to the Chief Election Inspector. They are in charge of that polling location. If you are unsatisfied, call the Disability Rights Wisconsin Voter Hotline at 844-347-8683. (Program it into your phone now in case you need it). 3. Polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm. Before you head out, double-check where your polling place is: https://lnkd.in/d5e-J6XV . If you are in line by 8 pm, you can vote. Do not let anyone tell you to leave. 4. Curbside voting is available for voters with disabilities who cannot access their polling place. Ask to use the accessible voting machine. Anyone can use it whether you have a disability or not. It shows clerks these machines are important and should be set up and ready to go on every election day.
