As National Diabetes Month ends, remember that SDOH are game changers when it comes to managing diabetes. Factors like education and income significantly influence diabetes outcomes: ?? Individuals with less than a high school education are nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with diabetes compared to those with higher education. ?? Adults from higher-income households have the lowest prevalence of diabetes, while non-metropolitan areas experience higher rates than urban regions. ?? Research also shows that adults with type 2 diabetes face food insecurity 1.7x more frequently than those with type 1. Food insecurity often leads to reduced self-management of diabetes, such as difficulties in medication adherence and glucose monitoring.
