Education is lifelong--including social emotional learning. Today, Social Optics helped a group of school district Speech Language Pathologists use the same tools we use with students, to engage with a pressing, sensitive and emotional topic-the Department of Education and Special Education. Most importantly, those SLPs are excited to take these tools back to their schools to improve social learning and communication for ALL students. We build a better tomorrow together starting today.

关于我们
Social Optics equips teens with a communication toolkit for social emotional well-being. Social Optics is a social communication program equipping teens with a set of lenses for viewing social interactions. The lenses improve their perspective-taking, problem-solving, and communication skills, resulting in better transition outcomes and employability. The goal is to enhance their quality of life through informed decision-making, meaningful social connections, and increased career opportunities.

In this podcast, Carolyn Long, MCD, SLP-CCC and Dr. Stephanie C. Holmes unpack how the #socialskills we teach in middle and high school have a larger impact on #selfesteem and #wellbeing later in life--often negative. Listen in as they discuss ways to change how #socialcommunication and #socialskills can be taught in manner that creates positive self-esteem in students and greater understanding of who they are and who they are becoming. Do you want to address absenteeism? If you do, it starts with students’ relationships with other students. Gregory Facey shared, during our Social Optics webinar, that #neurodivergent students struggle to determine, “Is this person authentically my friend, or is this just another person on the internet? I remember working with students in transition programs that struggled with that differentiation.” Join this conversation at our next webinar, we chat about Jonathan Haidt’s book "The Anxious Generation" and its impact on students. ?? Let’s face it: Social media is engaging. It’s why you’re reading this post. In our recent Social Optics webinar, Jamal D. Robinson, MBA. ABD said it very well. “Social media has been a challenging medium to incorporate into the school setting. The pros of it is that it allows our districts, especially our smaller districts and communities, to share all the great things that are going on in the classroom.” Join the conversation at our next webinar, where we chat about Jonathan Haidt’s book "The Anxious Generation" and its impact on students. ?? Thursday, June 20th? ? 2:00 PM EST.? ?? https://lnkd.in/g96gfcph Gregory Facey, Carolyn Long, MCD, SLP-CCC, Max Brooks, Matt Monjan, Margarita Marquez, Corey Benson #socialmedia #mentalhealth #chronicstudentabsenteeism #neurodiversity #k12education #socialemotionallearning

Are you concerned about the impact of social media on students? So are we. Corey Benson brought up a scary but accurate point of one impact of social media, saying, “With about 60% of the students that we support, social media played a part in them facing expulsion or being suspended.” Join Corey, Gregory Facey, Carolyn Long, MCD, SLP-CCC, Max Brooks, Matt Monjan, Margarita Marquez, Jamal D. Robinson, MBA. ABD, and Social Optics as we chat about Jonathan Haidt’s book "The Anxious Generation" and its impact on students. ??
