Only One Bill for Bilingual Education – And It’s Not Enough California has 1.1 million English learners, yet just one bill this session — #AB865 — focuses on bilingual education. This bill would provide $5 million for books and instructional materials in languages other than English, but many say more is needed. A recent CalMatters article highlights the need for more bilingual educators, slow progress toward Global California 2030 and the challenges of expanding bilingual programs due to limited funding.
