What sets SOAP Health apart is its "human-in-the-loop" approach. While the AI operates independently for routine tasks—collecting comprehensive patient data, generating 85-99% pre-completed SOAP notes, and identifying care gaps or hereditary risks—it doesn’t replace the physician. Instead, a human clinician steps in only when necessary, such as for complex cases requiring nuanced judgment, final treatment decisions, or patient reassurance that only a human touch can provide. This hybrid model ensures that the technology augments rather than supplants the doctor, keeping clinical oversight firmly in human hands while letting AI handle the heavy lifting of data processing and preliminary assessments. The question is simple. The response is profound. Who makes more mistakes, humans or AI? Based on my ongoing, extensive read of the medical literature, the answer is increasingly humans. So let's be very clear. While AI is imperfect, humans are inherently more flawed. It's elementary. As medical knowledge and complexity continues to expand this growing chasm between human and AI, medical errors can only be expected to expand. FDA, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, The National Institutes of Health, NHS etc. if you're reading this, please understand that what humans and society want most is for medical errors to be mitigated. This means that a standard should be set for Responsible AI that does not demand perfection, but includes built-in-surveillance to catch errors quicker than humans do. A trained human should remain in the loop and then we get the best of both worlds. AI is evolving and responsible supervision, for multiple reasons, is quintessential. However, let's realize that the nature of human existence has always been to consider risk/rewards benefits and it should be clear now to everyone that the growing prowess of AI diagnostic capabilities makes acceptance and usage critical to good medicine. Much has been written recently about physicians increasingly using AI to help them get the right diagnosis. I applaud such physicians who take the extra, unpaid time to supplement their own knowledge and intuition to get the right diagnosis for their patients by consulting AI. Kudos to them for caring. That's exactly what I want and expect from my physician. AI is here to stay. Let's teach physicians how to best use AI in the service of their patients and then make it malpractice not to at least consult it. Follow the money. After years of payment cuts and failure to keep up with inflation, physicians are increasingly avoiding low reimbursement patients that now include even Medicare patients. With 40 million Americans on Medicare, this should be a wake up call for all of us. Most physicians have given up on appropriate patient encounter reimbursement. Some are wise to gather the crumbs offered through Annual Wellness Visits, G codes, remote patient monitoring, and chronic care management. It’s time we stop discussing how AI will impact physicians and fully embrace massive adoption to improve productivity, pay, and patient outcomes.
