Hello LinkedIn friends, colleagues, and followers. It's been awhile since I last posted here. Sharing an update that has been in the works for the last few months. I've acquired TK Networks, LLC, a fixed wireless internet service provider with coverage in southern and central Maine. It's come full circle: one of my first jobs was working at a WISP nearly 20 years ago. I've always enjoyed "pushing packets" and now I get to do that on a larger scale. Long term goals are to become a hybrid WISP + FISP company. I will continue to operate my primary business Snow Pond Technology Group Inc. and see some synergy between the two businesses as MSP customers who need options for internet service and ISP customers who need a MSP to support their IT systems. I have one favor to ask: I am looking to hire 1-2 1099 contractors or one part-time employee in Maine for customer installation and repair. Experience with Ubiquiti wireless equipment, cabling, and networking skills preferred. Candidates may have previously worked at a satellite TV provider or worked for a national ISP. Last Thursday, I spent some time giving back to #MidMaineTechCenter, the school that helped set my foundations of where I am now professionally. I enjoyed watching a group of students competing in SkillsUSA local internet networking competition where they had to terminate some network cables, use those cables to connect to a Cisco switch and router, and then configure them to connect to the internet. Myself and two other judges had to review their work and pick the finalists who move onto the state competitions in a couple of months. I highly encourage everyone who reads this to reach out to your local vocational centers and offer your time to volunteer, mentor students, or be a judge at one of the competitions. These students may very well be your future hires.
