Nearly three years and 31.4 million dollars later, the Rowan University Chamberlain Student Center expansion finally opened to the public on March 12.? ? The 31,000-square-foot expansion features open spaces for students to study, chat with friends, or lounge in between classes. There are multiple meeting rooms for clubs and organizations to book, a stage to host performances, and an outdoor plaza and terrace. Along with the expansion brings a new Saxbys location on the ground floor, which is opening soon.? ? The expansion serves as the sister space to the original building, which has had a home on campus since 1974. The new space seeks to align with Rowan’s goals of continually changing and growing as the campus itself expands.? ? West Deptford, Willingboro, and Southampton were the only South Jersey school systems with referendum questions in Tuesday’s special election, one of five times during the year that school boards can ask voters to approve a bond issue or special question. ? According to unofficial results, an $89.9 million bond issue in West Deptford passed and plans to expand its preschool program to include 3-year-olds, adding 10 classrooms to the district’s early childhood center. The Gloucester County district also wants to upgrade HVAC systems at its five schools and add a music room to the high school. ? Voters in Willingboro (Burlington County) approved two proposals on the ballot, totaling $67.9 million, for projects including new roofs, science lab renovations, and gym annexes. ? In Southampton (Burlington County), voters approved a $14.1 million referendum for projects that include security upgrades, a new media center, and an annex for art and music rooms. South Jersey Industries (SJI) recently presented a $39,080 check to the South Jersey Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE-SJC) as part of its annual employee giving campaign. The donation was made during a Lunch & Learn event at SJI’s headquarters in Folsom, N.J., marking the beginning of AABE’s 2025 Scholarship Application Program. ? In addition to the 2024 donation, SJI announced further commitments to support the organization’s mission. These funds will directly contribute to scholarships for students pursuing higher education in colleges and technical schools, with a focus on those entering STEM-related fields. ? Nebius, a Netherlands-based AI infrastructure company, is expanding its operations in the United States with a new data center expected to open in the City of Vineland this summer, the company said this week. ? Nebius, which is having its facility custom built, will have a capacity of 300 megawatts, the company said. ? AI data centers are specialized facilities built to house enough computing power to power the internet and handle the artificial intelligence workload. The process requires a lot of computer servers consuming large amounts of energy. ? For that reason, data centers are often referred to based on their energy capacity. The 300 MW refers to the data center’s power capacity, indicating the amount of electrical power it can consume at any given instant, according to information provided by the company. In March, rural Woodbine might be able to tout itself as the “Gateway to Hollywood.” It will serve as the backdrop for scenes in Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg’s new UFO-themed movie, which reportedly will be called “The Dish.” Spielberg himself is expected to be in Woodbine to direct the filming scheduled for March 10-14. ? Scenes for the Spielberg movie will be shot along the railroad tracks from Woodbine to Buena Vista Township and will include trains operated by Cape May Seashore Lines, Mayor William Pikolycky said. ?
